I made:
All South Honor Band (USM- Hattisburg, MS)
SCRMC Honor Band (Monroe)
Unofficial- Ark/La/Tex Honor Band (LA Tech- Ruston)
I won't be doing All-South. Instead, I'll be playing flute in the Valentine's Banquet. David's written out a flute part for one of the songs and since I've been trying to convince everyone to pick a song with flute in it for the past 3 years, I figured this is kind of important. It's fun, anyway. Plus, I won't have to miss those extra two days of school and one day of LOHS band practice. If I did all three honor bands plus FBLA district meeting, I'd miss 6 days of school in the shortest month of the year. I hate make up work. Even if I do waste so much time at school, teachers always seem to attempt to teach while I'm gone.
I'll be taking the Economics test at the FBLA district meeting. That should be interesting considering I haven't had Free Enterprise/Economics in over a year. That's alright though, I know a bit about the subject and I like it.
As for the rest of my high school years, there's a few options:
- Graduate early and use what would be my senior year to take piano lessons from David and Mrs. Toney, flute lessons from Ms. Swetnam or someone and participate in LYO. Without school to distract me and waste my time, I could focus on what I really love and need for the rest of my career. High school is only slowing me down. Just think of all the time I could be at home practicing. I could go to my Baton Rouge lessons during the day instead of having to drive out there at night after school and get home late on a school night.
- My senior year, only take English IV and Physics from LOHS and spend the rest of my school day at Southeastern taking 6 hours or credit free if I get a 24 on the ACT. I could get my freshman theory out of the way plus one other course for free.
- My senior year, audition for an arts school such as Interlochen. Be with other musicians who actually know something and learn even more... that's nice. When you're with people like those, you learn so much more from just being around them.
That's just what we're looking at. I'd personally perfer the first choice.
I get another big piccolo solo in a march we're doing. I don't know what march it is, but Feigles told me that it's got a picc solo, so I'm good. We're starting some kind of method book in band. Although it'll probably be really boring and I'm going to have to listen to Beth gripe about it for weeks, I'm excited. Feigles is actually doing something that looks like it can really benefit us individually as well as a whole. I've even heard talk of playing tests out of the book plus on all the major scales! Wow... That's ideal.
Maybe I should just screw it all and go into the medical field?
Or maybe I should move to Walker or Lafayette or somewhere. Walker and Lafayette = great bands.
