You might be a red-neck if...

Here's something that confuses me about Southwestern.
I'll see lots of people around that look "boho" or "neo-hippie" or "earth-friendly." You know what I'm talking about -- Tevas, beaded jewelry, vintage stuff, whatever. And then I happen upon their facebook profile to see:
Political views: Very Conservative
Interests: JESUS! Christianity
Favorite Books: The Bible, anything by C.S. Lewis
and things like that. And then I'm just confused, because the way they act and dress and present themselves is very "I'm liberal, I don't like the Man, freedom for everybody!" and the way they actually are is "Yeah, gay people shouldn't have rights! Wooo!"
I think this surprises me because at my high school, the people who were conservative usually wore polo shirts and other preppy attire all the time. They dressed like the rich kids and future Aggies that they were. But now, my political radar is hopelessly mis-calibrated.
This makes me a little mad in general, and also makes me a little angry at all these hippie-poseurs. The style of clothing they're wearing was invented by people who hated the government, who were anti-war, who were pro-free-love, who did all sorts of drugs and were all sorts of different crazy religions. It Austin, all the people that identify with any of those sentiments usually dress a little more towards the 60's side, and the people who don't, towards the buzz-cut side. But now, all these kids are running around, looking all "boho" and yet spouting Republican rhetoric they heard on Fox....
...I just think they're big fakes, and it pisses me off.
