The Riots?

Aug 10, 2011 17:09

It was scary yes. Been hearing voices the last couple of days and have been stiffer due to the Fibro. So I was clearly stressed.

I have been to see the damage, and CVA is safe thankfully. It's fixable, and could have been worse. But it is bad. So many local kids kicking off really is a bad sign for how rough parts of Croydon have become.

And it's no coincidence that it is the poorer areas where these kids seem to be based.

Much as I agree that School Discipline has been a problem for a while I do also agree that these Cuts fired up an already angry crowd and kicked them off. I feel this is incredibly obvious.

I've suggested Council Grants to help people rebuild. And it looks like others are now talking about it in Council Circles. We shall have to see how far it goes/ gets. Those traders are facing rough times without help.

I've spoken to a few other Service Users. They were afraid but ticking over. I'm not afraid as much as tired. It was a lot to take in.

Still, it seems to be calming now. And the Police presence out there is much better than on Monday. So all in all I'm pretty sure we're through the bad-stuff now. The debate on what caused this will continue though. These kids were VERY angry and chose to rebel ( rebellion ). It reminds me of the French Revolution and how divided a society we are at present. And after that all it took was a group kicking off in one place for the whole Tinderbox to go up.

That's a lot of anger and resentment for the authorities and Govt bubbling away out there. These Cuts are no coincidence. And so much happening in a VERY expensive London ( as it is these days ) is also no coincidence. Where there is poverty you generally get crime. As people turn to crime to cover the bills and create some semblance of a standard of living.

I've lived abject poverty in the past. I could have turned to crime to cover it I have to say. The emotions I felt were incredibly powerful. From Rage to Despair. And in the end there are some things I genuinely do not care about anymore I should care about. But they left me to die, so of course I do not care about them.

Like these kids seeing their services disappear etc etc? It isn't a coincidence.

I'm deeply worried about how short-sighted this Govt are. I've already seen Michael Gove utterly convinced The Cuts are irrelevant, and that this is just about Criminal Stuff. He doesn't seem to understand why people turn on Society. And, seeing as he is a Govt Minister, it's pretty obvious he should understand this subject.

Like with the Poll Tax Riots The Poor are about to get poorer. And they won't enjoy it.

So expect more troubles ahead if Gove is anything to go by. We've got these out of touch idiots for the next 3.5 years. And with bog-all jobs out there and The Poor being cut it will get worse before it gets better I feel.
