sixpence_jones posted a great question, over at the sshg_newbies LJ. I like the question, and the answers posted so far, so much that I'm reposting her question here:

I would like you to tell me: What is it about the Hermione/Severus relationship that really makes you love them?
Is it the UST? The allure of the older man? The meeting of minds? Or is it the fact that we all ( Read more... )

All of the above!

Okay, really, for me I think it is a meeting of the minds and the snark. I love witty banter and sarcastic comments and these two are both so capable of both. Hermione can be a little bossy boots and she needs someone who won't just go along with everything without explanation to rein her in a bit. She champions the underdog, but I think it's really just about needing to take care of people for her. She needs someone who will stand up to her when necessary and he needs someone who will truly look out for his best interests for a change.

Older men have always been more appealing to me, but I really don't care about the age difference here. I do tend to prefer the power dynamic to be more even though, so I tend toward post-Hogwarts Hermione. However, I will admit that I do see Severus with someone younger because his emotional life was sort of put on hold in his early twenties. Rejected by Lily, subjugated to Voldemort and then to Dumbledore as well, he really didn't have a normal life with hopes and dreams like most people do in their twenties. Hermione gives him a second chance to find those dreams after all the nightmare years.

That said, I guess I can relate to a bookwormish know-it-all who had males as best friends her whole life and there's nothing I like better than an intelligent, sarcastic, brooding, dark-haired man!

Hope you are feeling much, much better now!
