I've always read and thought about Song of Songs as beautiful writing describing the relationship between a husband and wife, which it is. But as I'm trying to grow a more intimate relationship with God, I've been trying to think of Him as my love, as my husband. I think it's so important to view God as Lord, as Savior, as Sovereign, as a Father, as a Friend, but he also wants to be our Love, he wants to be desired by us. I was trying to read this book from that perspective, and I felt like God was really showing me some awesome stuff that I wanted to share with whoever is reading this.
Tell me, O my love, where are you leading your flock today? Where will you rest your sheep at noon? For why should I wander like a prostitute among the flock of your companions? - 1:7.
As I read that verse tonight, I couldn't help but ask myself "how long will I live amongst false idols? How long before I stop stumbling amidst them?" When will my Lord return for me? I long to be in His presence, but I'm still here on this earth, trying to keep my head above water.
God responded: If you don't know, O most beautiful woman, follow the trail of my flock to the shepherd's tents, and there feed your young goats. - 1:8
Since we don't know when the Lord will come for us, we must follow God's leading: to the places where God is, to our church, to fellowship with our family in Christ...that is where we have to fill our needs, refresh ourselves, grow.
I suppose it's a simple concept, but it's what God chose to show me tonight, so I just wanted to share it with y'all!
