A Bite on the Neck
In the pop-culture folklore surrounding vampires, it all starts with a bite on the neck. In some cases that's just about all it takes, in others there is a complete exsanguination followed by a minute return flow that Awakens the fledgling from dead into Everlasting Life.
In real Vampirism, the process is a bit easier. It all starts with buying a book. The act of purchasing the text links you in to the Vampire Family. It sets up the proper initial condition needed to Contact the Gods.

I gave my fiancée a "bite on the neck," and although it did take a while, she is now also an active member of the Temple of the Vampire and is enjoying both Dayside and Nightside success in her unending life. However, a stolen copy won't work. At least, you should pray to whatever Gods you believe in that a stolen copy won't work. If it does, then you will be face to Face with Someone who knows you've stolen a copy of the Vampire Bible. If such a being exists, then all you've done is invited an actual, real Vampire into your life and shown yourself to be His or Her enemy.
