i'm really sick of hearing all this shit about gay marriages. why the fuck is it even an issue?
i just read that bush is all about putting the smackdown on them...
thats when i realized the reason why the smart people side doesn't have overwhelming support in favor of gay marriages is because smart people have no hell.
see, i'm a smart person, and i understand that the concept of a god who gives a shit what our genitals do or where they go is perhaps the most asinine thing ever-- so i might say to myself "man, this whole anti gay marriage thing is stupid" but i wont think "oh my god, i'm going to go to hell if i dont support homosexual unions" i also dont have any misguided paternal/altruistic motives as strong as "oh man, i must protect those poor homosexual souls from an eternity of burning in hell for their ghastly sins" all i can really think of is "man, this country sucks, too bad those gay people can't be married" not exactly as dramatic as eternal pain and suffering (or the friendlier incarnations of hell i've been hearing about later, the one where you're "doomed to wander around, never to know the love of god" which really just sounds like my every day life, only its eternal i guess)
fear is an amazing motivator, and generally a self serving one... apathy comes very easy when your eternity isn't at stake.
i wish i did think i'd go to hell if i didn't get active and start up my own agnostic based faith... hopefully bush will be out of office and it'll be null and void, however i thought it would be great to have SOME kind of atheist of agnostic group qualify for mr. bushes faith based initiatives and get money for doing nice things like give money to non bob bums if they promise they'll free their life of religion... or better yet.. coats for kids type thing... kids are easier to make believe things...
sometimes i think about my username, and how it offends people... sometimes i wonder if i shouldn't get another, as if somehow i'm limiting myself by putting off people from the start... obviously whenever i do anything official (turn in homework over e-mail, inquire about jobs, etc i use fahlgren@uci.net rather then christ_raped@shakethebaby.com) but you know, the whole "raped by christ" thing is rather factual; and its easy to say that thousands of people have been raped in the same way--- if you look at rape from a legal standpoint, the whole statutory rape, by where an older person takes advantage of one under the age of consent, puts them in a situation where the pressure is to great to be able to say no, fill them with lies about what is right and wrong and so forth-- anyone who has ever been initiated in any religion or sold their souls by "accepting christ" into their hearts in some sort of public youth group or church ritual has, in a sense, been raped by christ...
i shouldn't have MSN as my homepage... i was just gonna go cheat myself out of an education experience via sparknotes so i could turn something in an hour, then i see our president doing stupid president stuff and before you know it i'm defending my lj username without even having it be attacked...
