[Private to Parker]

Parker.

[You can hear the fury in his voice.]

What the fuck?

[He's gritting his teeth, and that's nearly audible too, then he sighs a little,]

Never fucking mind. I can't... I can't fucking do this right now. I want my keys back.

Oh god, I'm so sorry. I didn't know, I was sort of hiding...

I should have tried to get in touch with you. Maybe I could have gotten you out earlier.

It's alright, it's not your fault, love.

I didn't even have a communicator on me, there was no way you could have got to me.

You didn't freeze to death, did you? [Because that sounds HORRIFIC.]

Oh, Christ no. The person who shut me was considerate enough to shut me in with a sleeping bag. And only in the fridge, not the freezer. I was just fucking cold and had to spent a while in the infirmary when I got out. I'm alright.

Would you like me to make you some cocoa?

If you're offering, I'd love it.

Make sure to make yourself one too. Come up here and have a chat, yeah?

Okay.

[Ten minutes later...KNOCK KNOCK. She has two mugs of cocoa (with marshmallows, of course) and a couple of chocolate-chip cookies on a tray.]

[Paddy answers the door. He has the duvet cover wrapped around his shoulders. It's more of a psychological cold at this point than an actual one.]

Hi. C'mon in. [He stood back to let her in.]

I brought cookies, too. [Said a little stupidly, because...it's obvious, and she knows that, but she can't think of anything else to say. She sets the tray down beside the bed.]

Are you okay now? [Eying the duvet, of course.]

Yeah, just a little chilly, y'know. [He tossed the duvet aside, as really it was just an attempt to make himself feel better,] And you're brilliant, y'know? Cookies and cocoa? Nicely done. [He grabbed one of the cookies and took a bite of it,] I'll be fine. You okay?

My mom used to surprise me with it sometimes, when I was doing homework as a kid. She'd help me with math while we ate and drank.

[She shrugs.]

I'm fine. I know it's not my fault, but...I'm really sorry, Paddy.

[He nods,] And I'll tell you, despite that, that it's not your fault, love.

[He sipped at his cocoa and sat down on the edge of his bed,] Did you notice anything off about Parker?

She seemed really angry. You know, lashing out a lot. I sort of kept my distance, because I was afraid I'd say something wrong and she'd fly off the handle. [She looks down into her cocoa for a moment before taking a drink.]

Guess I made the right choice.

Yeah, you did. She... gave me a reason, y'know. One I should have known was a month out, but like hell I could remember.

[He sipped at his cocoa again,] Am I a dick for totally missing it, and buying her lie?

[She gives a little half-shrug with one shoulder.] I can't really say. I don't know what the reason is.

Not really sure I can say, y'know? [He shrugged a little,] Put it this way, it's crazy personal, and I... it sorta made sense. Should have known it was a lie, though.
