ill be at work all day tomorrow, so:

things i am thankful for in 2010:

--as always, my parents. there will never be enough words to truly emphasize how wonderful it has been to grow up in such loving and supportive household. i would not be who i am today without them helping me every step of the way, from the critical things like coming with me to eight million doctors appointments, to the mundane things like teaching me how to change a tire or cook a chicken.

--my sister, who i am thankful for, but this year i am more PROUD than anything. she has come so far, and now is out on her own, having her own adventures. i dont think that i could up and move to a brand-new city where i didnt know anyone, didnt have a job, didnt know the town...and she did just that, and is thriving. shes so much stronger than she ever lets people give her credit for.

--my health. this september marked 3 years cancer-free. i will never stop being thankful for that. and, equally, i am thankful for the strength that even such a comparatively minor scare has given me.

--people who make the world a better place, in ways big and small, and who inspire others to do the same, whether its through humor, music, service, education, or awareness

--friends who love and support, who listen and care. friends that i see every day at work, friends that i keep in touch with through facebook, friends that i spend hours on the phone with every month or so. friends from chicago, from korea, from orlando, scattered about in their own home states/countries. friends that i trust and friends that are just accuqaintances, girl friends to gossip with and boy friends to flirt with, friends who i have known for years but never met in person. every one of you, i am thankful for. (especially the ones that hire strippers. you know who you are.)

--beatrice. there is nothing better on a bad day than a small furry body that just wants to cuddle.

--in today's economy, and especially in florida, i am thankful for a job that does not pay well, and that i often grumble about, but one that most days i legitimately enjoy going to and am proud to say i am a part of.

--the freedom to marry whoever i want. those that have been afforded this right should be thankful and remember those that have been unfairly denied it.

--my town <3 i moved into my apartment sight unseen, simply because it was all i could afford. and while its half an hour away from work, that's about the only complaint i can possibly come up with. i do not know how i managed to luck out and find such an absolutely perfect location, but i am in love with winter garden, and i dont want to leave any time soon.

--an open mind, a kind heart, and a bright future. these things, once again, could never have been achieved without my parents. i am thankful every day that they raised me to be someone who can find the middle ground between blind naievety and cynicism, who is loyal almost to a fault, who is independent and stubborn and thoughtful and compassionate and moody and creative. i don't feel conceited saying any of these things; they are simply facts, that my parents have instilled in me since childhood. i am not a carbon copy of either of them, but rather a wonderful blend of my father's excellent sense of humor and my mother's terrible sense of direction, flawed but confident. and most of all, i am thankful that they have raised me to know that i am nowhere near as smart as i think i am, and that there is always room to grow, to improve.

--the little things that make my life wonderful: finding an awesome geocache. watching bea contort herself into hilariously awkward positions. my favorite pen on the first page of a brand-new notebook. making an incredibly geeky reference and having someone notice. finishing nano (hopefully). black and white cookies. a florida skyline right after a rainstorm. illuminations. the adrenaline rush after a save. jokes that only a 7 seas guard would understand. hair that's almost to my boobs and doesnt come out when i tug at it. a really good hug. a really good drink. baby ducklings. babies. cast holiday discount. the level of comfort that comes with being friends with someone for over a decade. a really really good episode/season of a tv show, that reminds me despite everything of why i majored in tv. spike's tweets (sometimes). hopkins' tweets (all the time). dancing the hoedown throwdown. people who pretend to be cynical but are big softies underneath it all. being able to make a truly magical moment for a guest, and the way their eyes light up (especially if its a child) when it happens.

and those are just a few. life sucks sometimes, so dont forget to appreciate the things you have.
