This week has been a bit of a blur though I'm probably just having trouble remembering as I've only had 3hrs sleep.
Rah.
We finally got a meeting with our new W co-ordinator at the Reception place & I got all of my questions answered which was a big relief. I spent the rest of the day emailing & contacting various other vendors regarding details for the week before & day of. All 3 of us worked on Saturday which was kind of good because it was so busy.
G went to the cricket with the boys & then to The Royal for dinner & all night drinking. After work, I went into Northbridge & ate dinner at the Shanghai Food Hall, poked around the Festival & then came home and watched DVDs in this stinking-no-aircon-goddamn-apartment.
G called around 1am to say they were getting a taxi home so I went to bed. I woke up at 2:30am with him banging on the door because he couldn't open the door so I had to get up & let him in. I'd set my alarm for 3:3am as we were going to do a swapmeet today but next thing I know he's telling me it's 5am! Fuck. So we got up too quickly & raced off to my parents'; G got a bay luckily & Dad and I had to do another two trips in the car to bring all the stuff up there.
So, in the end it was worth going because we made $500 from all the junk. Mostly because I sold most of the stuff off at 50c, $1 or $2. It's amazing how many people will offer 20c when you tell them it's 50c. I think my parents' are happy too because it's cleared out half of their garage; and the remaining six boxes of crap are going to the charity shop tomorrow.
There was a great guy in the bay next to us called Max & he was selling fishing gear. Max has a disease that affects the movement in his shoulders & arms so he started re-building fishing rods to keep active. So, we bought a rod from him as I love fishing & G wants to get into it whenever we go down south; he gave us a great discount & some free hooks. I can't wait to go!
Afterwards, we went & had our usual lunch at Subi markets except they have now closed half of the food hall & most of the stalls. It was eerily quiet & my gozleme was soggy instead of crispy. Bought groceries, dropped it home & went back to Subi so I could do a quick dash around the craft fair in Mueller Park. Found one stall doing cool things with funky fabrics so I bought some of those. We went into town to return some shoes I bought but I got halfway up the Hay St mall & realised I'd left them in the car. Went to Borders & bought a BBQ cookbook with my 35% off voucher. G went to Rick Hart & bought a cooling system because we still have no aircon & by the time we can afford it, it'll be winter again! So far, it seems to be working quite well as long as you remember to top it up with water every few hours.
Mum told me my piano teacher passed away last week. I had been going to her from when I was about 12 until I finished my piano exams at 16. My lessons were always at her house in the hot back room & it was a horrible upright piano that I hated. My piano teacher also used to breed border collies & so for most of the year she had a litter of puppies in the front room with her two dogs. I always used these as an excuse to take 5 minutes out of my lessons. I was never allowed in the other front rooms where she had a lot of ornaments & it smelt like casseroles & toilet cleaner. My piano teacher was a bit of a 'hard' woman.. quite tough but considerate when she wanted to be. I remember failing my first attempt at sixth grade & I dreaded the yelling she was going to do when I told her. My favourite part was sight reading which she made me do before each lesson. Mum told me she'd had a brain tumour removed last December & everything went well. A few months ago she sold my mum some Amway washing detergeant & said she hadn't been feeling well.
Now, she's gone. If I thought there was a heaven, she'd be up there kicking angels butts to the curb if they didn't get their chords right. RIP Barbara Hayes.
