It's been awhile... haven't felt like posting but I burnt my hand tonight so it's going to take longer than normal as I'm typing with one hand!
Friday before last we had our pre-wedding photo shoot at the Ceremony location. It was good because our photographer gave us tips on how to stand & stuff but I still felt a bit silly posing sometimes. We had to sit on a few logs & lean against trees (I hope I'm not doing that in my silk dress on the day!) we got a bit too close to some ants which G didn't like haha
Afterwards, G & I went to Freo and had dinner at Cicerellos which was yum as always. We walked up to the markets, bought my parents' their anniversary presents (coral & jade were hard to find!) & we bought some fruit and vegetables.
On the sunday, we went to my parents' house to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. I had invited my cousins & some family friends to lunch. I made a rolled beef roast, roast potatoes, sweet potato, beans with almond butter, prosciutto & broccoli penne, apple pie & profiterole cake.
I worked from home on Wednesday, adding Christmas stuff to the website.
I had my group interview with Ikea on Thursday; there were 10 of us so it wasn't too bad. We watched a slideshow about Ikea & the new store. Then some people swapped groups & we had to work as a team to put an Ikea lamp together! Lots of laughing ensued especially when the guy who was with us (Adam) decided he'd sit back & pretend to direct the three females instead of pitching in to help. The lamp was pretty easy as there were no tools involved - it all just clicked together! Then we had to take it apart and fit it back in the box (which is always the hardest part) I was the only one who had taken notice when we opened the box so luckily I managed to get it back in without resorting to physical violence. We had a short break & then we were put into pairs, given an Ikea product & had to come up with a 1-min commercial about it. I was put with a 16yr old guy who giggled nervously everytime I said anything. We were given a frying pan & came up with silly things like using it for a flyswat, a hat, playing cricket or tennis & using it to play air guitar! The assessors laughed when we did it so it was pretty funny.
At one point, the guy was telling me about what the Yr12s at his school did last week for mock-up day. I told him one of the things we did & he thought it was a great idea so he's going to do it next year! (oops) He said the kids at his school put grass clippings in the swimming pool, called the police on their teachers & pouring honey over the steps! That's pretty bad - the biggest thing we did was advertise our school for sale in the paper. They got over a hundred phone calls about the "55 room mansion, private swimming pools, diving boards, athletic track, church, 300 car spaces & more"!
The interview took over 3hrs & at the end they gave us each a red heart pillow with arms. There's a nice story behind them - they employed 500 people in India to make a toy but when they got it into the stores, the eyes kept falling off. So, they were about to tell the workers that they wouldn't have jobs but instead they sent one of their Swedish designers to India to find a solution. The designer came up with the heart pillow with arms that has no eyes or anything that can fall off & not only did the 500 workers keep their jobs but since then they've employed another 1000 because they are selling so many of the pillows!
I don't know what will happen, but it would be great to get a job there. They seem like they care about their workers & we get a discount!
I met mum for lunch in London Court, we went to Borders & then we picked up my wedding dress from the alterationists. They did such a good job - we were very impressed! Later, G & I went to Morley as I was going to get a new mobile but I found out that I'm still under contract with Optus until March (ARGH!) So I can't get one until then unless I want to pay Optus (which I don't)
I had a full day off on Friday (finally!) so apart from a walk in the rain to the butchers, I spent it at home.
I bought 'Oceans Thirteen' & we watched it. It took a little while to understand what was going on; I need to watch it again.
Work was really busy yesterday & luckily we had Jac working for 4hrs so that was a great help. G & I had dinner at Wagamama & spent the night keeping warm next to the heater.
This morning we walked up the road to the fete at Perth College - bought some chutney, jam, cake & a thyme and rosemary plants. Then we went to the Little Market Day at Distracted - had coffee, bought the coolest penguin art & some other stuff by local craftspeople. Drove into town, went to JB & Borders to spend vouchers.
Currently, I have 27 books on my 'To-Read-List' but I've bought a few more over the last couple of weeks at Planet Books & Borders. I bought:
* 'Jamie at Home' cookbook
* 'Cracks in my Foundation' by Marian Keyes
* 'Red Carpets & other Banana Skins' by Rupert Everett
* 'Holiday' by Bill Granger (cookbook)
* 'The Five People You Meet In Heaven' by Mitch Albom (he wrote 'Tuesdays with Morrie' but I haven't read that)
* 'Whatever You Do, Don't Run - my adventures as a Botswana Safari Guide' by Peter Allison
* 'Gravity Sucks' by Maggie Alderson
* 'Titanic Survivor - the memoirs of Violet Jessop Stewardess' edited by John Maxtone-Graham
* 'The Messenger' by Markus Zusak (he wrote 'The Book Thief')
* 'Hugh Fearlessly Eats It all: Dispatches from the Gastronomic Frontline' by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall
I'm mainly reading the Titanic one first & it's really interesting. Violet Jessop was a stewardess on the ships Olympic, Titanic & Britannic & she survived all 3 ships' disasters. The descriptions she gave when watching Titanic go down are chilling.
We are now less than a month until the wedding & both G and I can't wait until it's over. We're trying to have a relatively simple, easy, no-fuss wedding but the stress is involuntary. Nikki gave me good advice on some herbal stuff but I haven't had enough yet to see if it's actually effective.
Finally, I cooked some lamb on the stove, put it in the oven to finish cooking & then took it out and put it back on the stove to crisp up while I cooked the peas. I went to lift the lamb up but forgot it had been in the 200-degree oven & ended up dropping it on the floor but not after I'd held it in my left hand for 5 seconds.
It bloody stings like hell - G has been insisting I go to the hospital, but I've put some cream on it instead & now it's bandaged up.
I also did my tax return tonight & discovered I may be getting a refund for the first time EVER.
I'm glad daylight saving is back.
*hugs Blake*
