Rubbing it in...

Sep 28, 2013 08:13

All week we've had to listen to Ed Miliband's plans to freeze energy prices to benefit 'hard working families'. This morning I listened with disbelief to David Cameron's plan for a £1000 marriage tax allowance for hard working straight and gay couples because "Love is love, commitment is commitment".

I would just like to point out that single people work hard too. They pay the rent or mortgage and somehow keep on top of all the bills with one salary instead of two. They maybe miss out on things that they wanted, like children or travel, and have to live a lot of their life on their own, on a budget, without someone to share the good things and the bad things with.

I am so pleased to be told by two men who got everything they ever wanted that no one loves me, that no one has committed to me. And that they are going to take my hard earned money and give it to people who already have more than I can ever dream of.

Thank you.

EDIT UPDATE

Actually this is really getting to me. Maybe it's because I'm not feeling great today, but it is seriously upsetting me that I am considered less than a proper person because I'm not one half of a couple. There's a great quote from Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew:

"... of all the men alive
I never yet beheld that special face
Which I could fancy more than any other."

That's true of me. I have never met a man who I felt was special, could be special to me. I have never had that opportunity. To be told that I am to be taxed, essentially punished for this to benefit people who might have had two special people or three or four, or maybe be in a marriage to someone they don't even love out of convenience or laziness, is just sickening.

Maybe I'm over thinking this, but you shouldn't tax love. You shouldn't buy it either. Not at my expense.
