Economic Security Strategy - buying your peace of mind

WTF is this shit? What about assistance for all the people who work hard to pay taxes so the cth can just give our money away? What about struggling students and small business people? What about workers on the lower end of the pay scale? What the fuck. Please Rudd and co come up with better ideas than censorship and handouts.

To be fair, I don't exactly need a $1000 lump sum amount at the moment, but not_in_denial almost certainly does, considering how little money he gets to do thing other than just survive. I'd like a bit of extra cash at the moment, but I'm not exactly struggling, and I am at the bottom end of the pay scales. I actually managed to get through a period of 2-3 parking and speeding fines without being completely and totally hosed at the end, despite the tight budget.

I am not suggesting people like you and I want or need a cash handout at this moment. What I am thinking though is that they could use the money to fund projects which would benefit all, or at least a wider class of people.

Giving people cash money can be a dangerous thing - people should be able to spend it as they want - but unfortunately a lot of wastage occurs. I hate seeing public money misused but all you have to do is look up the stats of people on Centrelink who attend Crown and you will understand what I mean.

The Cth should be concentraiting on creating 21st century water, transport, telecoms and healthcare infrastructure. You know...the type of large project which will drive the economy, create massive employment and benefit all for generations. Less talk more action.

Are you implying that "a certain demographic" is neither able nor entitled to choose how their income should be spend? That sounds like judgement to me. You try living on $550 a fortnight in this economic climate through no fault of your own. Quit stereotyping. Everyone is entitled to go out, whether they are in paid employment or not. If you were to lose your job because you got run over by a car, that could be you ( ... )

I think you're chasing ghosts.

I was just trying to make the point that I really don't think it fair that students, who often work full time and juggle more then one job are overlooked and constantly screwed.

Same for those who give jobs and put their necks on the line on a regular basis (i.e. the small business people).

And as for surviving on $550.00 a fortnight or less, yes - I have actually done this, or something very similar to, many times when studying over 6 years.

Car registration is actually part tax and part compulsory insurance.

Again, I think it would be better to spread the money out so that those who are always overlooked can benefit from the benevolence of the government once in a while.

I am neither affluent nor completely healthy. I work fucking hard and I am lucky. Having an opinion and ideas does not mean I am judging you or people in like circumstances.
