Of Heroes...

Sep 11, 2001 18:16

There are a lot of people today, who died ignorant of what was going on. Some knew, but had nothing they could do to avoid it... but some chose the manner of their deaths and gave their lives in the attempt to save others.

There will be those who will praise the terrorists as heroes, noble soldiers who gave their lives for a cause. Whatever, it's ludicrous enough not to need to comment on.

But when all is said and done, they will find the bodies of a lot of rescue workers in New York. Workers that were running into that building to try to save whoever they could. Most of them knew that it's almost impossible to effect a rescue under those conditions. But they went into the building anyway, and died when it collapsed.

There's also a pilot. We don't know for certain now, and maybe the terrorists just couldn't fly all that well? But it sounds alot like the pilot tired to take back control, or at least crashed his plane rather than letting them use it as a weapon.

If so? His name makes it's way onto the roll of Heroes too. Some folk would say he was dead anyway? Since he might have known they were going to crash him? But there are still a lot of folks who couldn't make that choice.

More names to go on memorials... testament to the violent, virulent hatred that sees striking at a third party as the best way to convince them of your righteousness.

May those who died today find restful sleep, a special thanks who those who gave their lives trying to save the unsavable.
