Ready for summer?

May 26, 2005 13:53

We stripped away everthing that had been weighing us down this quarter. Corrie threw boy drama and family tragedy into the darkness while Em peeled off her gastric pain and homelessness. Kelly stepped into the water leaving at the shore: schoolwork, and apprehension as to the sanitary quality of lake water. Me? I left my quarter of insecurity crumpled at my ankles. We were in the middle of the city, yet we were completely isolated. Each of our shapes sunk into the water whether they were wide, narrow, lanky or plump. We all stepped outside our lives to recognize that in the deserted lake under the bowl of stars we were infinitley small. Minutae became undectible. Whatever we'd been carrying around with us this quarter we left on the banks of greenlake.

Summer surely will bring different pathways for each of us. Kelly is doing summer school, Em's going home to tahoe. Corrie and I are staying in our home towns attempting to fight apathy. Whatever it is, we're ready. We've cleansed ourselves of the year's dirt and prepared ourselves for what I hope to be a memorable summer.
