Being an RA means...
- residents loud after quiet hours
- residents drunk
- living in a fishbowl
- being known by tons of strangers everywhere
- using public restrooms every day
- being disrespected and glared at
- doing tons of work for little pay
- trying to sleep and knowing your residents are too loud outside
- getting home from a long shift at work, a lousy day of midterms, and having your residents run to your room
- stressing out about programs and wondering if residents will show
- late night (quiet) discussions
- watching residents read your bulletin boards
- seeing your residents being led off in handcuffs or off in a stretcher
- documenting 20 residents in one small dorm room
- sharing stories and gossip with your staff
- never having the time to be bored
- always having someone nearby to talk to
- always having someone to laugh at your jokes (or look at you strangely)
- always having someone impressed by your life outside the dorms
- watching freshmen grow and change quickly and drastically in good and bad ways
- absorbing the energy of someone just freed from their parents and from high school
- laughing with your bosses
- having a program go particularly well
- comforting someone who's upset
- being a part of someone's college memory
- having a home where you're never lonely
