Vast Reproach

Mar 07, 2008 22:29

When I was a child, heard the growing thunder
Watched brilliant electrical storms with wide eyes
All right outside my window
One one thousand two Mississippi three one thousand
KRASH mark last frame for Angels

I stargazed but never bothered knowing constellations
Always appreciated what I never understood
Thoughts lost amongst satellites Hubble Space Telescope
phony moon landings
Eudoxus Aristotle a homocentric universe
But Copernicus ruined that
All downhill ever since

Now no stars in sky
No twilight
No aurora borealis
Too much light pollution where I am
Tonight's skies full of impermeable gray where I am
Like a blanket bearing down on besieged town
All fellas complacent about this where I am

Once I had a chance to witness splendor of heavens
Loitering the beach with a lover
Stars on glorious display
Me too distracted
Might as well been under manhole cover
We set a log on fire
Burned red w/ hints of fuchsia
I needed my hand in the flame just to touch its beauty
Why reach for aether when I can get so much higher?
