well, it's been a week since mr. hayward was laid off, and it seems like most everyone has forgotten about it. teenagers wonder why we get walked all over. why are the schools always the first thing cut? why are we blamed for everything that society needs to blame something for? why are we ignored and swept under the rug at virtually every turn? its probably because we have the attention span of laboratory rats and can't stick to any one cause long enough to make any kind of impact. there were a grand total of three Triton students at last night's district budget forum, one of whom was in preschool. to put the interest level into context with the problem at hand, if each of those three students paid $700,000 to the district treasury, services would still have to be cut for next year. sorta makes midterms seem petty, doesn't it?
high schoolers don't have a vote, nor should we - we haven't earned it. but until the day arrives when we do (don't hold your breath), we'll have to make do with the next best thing - our voice. that is, if we can find the focus inside of our distractible minds to use it.
