So this is my first fanfic. It is for Brandywines au challenge post.
It is prompt #64:
Kirsten never lost her baby and it turned out to be a girl submitted by brucasnaleyfan1

I want to thank fruitya  for her great beta. She made a lot of helpful comments. But I am not that smart and good in writing so I couldn't realize all of her good ideas. She said: "this revelation between Emma/her mom/Kirsten seems rushed" and I whole heartily agree. I just don't know how to make it better. So sorry if it seems I didn't appreciate your work and help. I truly did. I loved your comments. Thanx again.

So here we go:

Kirsten was woken up by the ringing phone, hiding her yawn behind a hello.

"Am I talking to the family of Ryan Atwood?" an unfamiliar voice asked.

"Uh, yes.I am Kirsten Cohen, Ryan’s mom" Kirsten answered, before correcting herself "I mean, I am his legal guardian." Not that she didn’t think of Ryan as her son, but it was 4 am and whoever was calling sounded serious and didn’t need the confusion about the different last names.

"I am sorry to inform you, but I am calling from Newport Hospital. A Ryan Atwood and his girlfriend were just brought in via ambulance."

Kirsten’s mouth dropped open. She couldn’t believe it. Ryan was still grounded from his last drinking escapade. So Ryan is in the pool house - sleeping. She is sure of it. She just checked on him before she went to bed and he was already peacefully sleeping.

I am sorry, but Ryan is in his room sleeping. Are you sure you’ve got the right family?" Kirsten asked confused.

A Ryan James Atwood, born on March 17th?" clarified the nurse

Oh my god, yes that’s him. She started feeling dizzy.

How is he? Why is he in a hospital? What happened?" Kirsten was talking so fast, that she barely remembered to breathe let alone trying to put on some clothes and wake Sandyat the same time.

"I am sorry but I can’t tell you what happened over the phone. Please come down here soon."

Kirsten hung up the phone as she replied, "We’ll be there in 15 minutes."

How can Sandy still be asleep? That guy can basically sleep through everything.

Why am I thinking about Sandy and his sleeping habits? We have to go now.

"Sandy, wake up!" Kirsten was shaking here husband till he sluggishly opened his eyes.

"Kirsten, what’s going on? It’s too early to get up."

"It’s Ryan, the hospital called. We have to get down there now." Kirsten answered. She could see the exhaustion disappearing in an instance, giving way to a very concerned and frightend look on her husbands face.

"How can that be? He is in the poolhouse. He is grounded, he didn’t go out tonight." Sandy stated, voicing what Kirsten’s thoughts.

Kirsten just shrugged her shoulders. "It’s him. He is in a hospital. Lets go. NOW SANDY."

While Sandy rushed to get on a sweater and some shoes, Kirsten was already on her way to the car.

The ride to the hospital was a blur as both were too tense and confused to talk.

Kirsten parked the car in the emergency entrance and they rushed inside to the Nurses’ Station.

Sandy approached the receptionist and asked "We are here for our son, Ryan Atwood."

"Ryan Atwood. Yes, I am going to take you to his doctor," answered the receptionist. She directed them to the ICU floor where they were introduced to a doctor.

"Hi, I am Dr. Yuro. I am treating Ryan. You are the parents?" after receiving a nod, he continued "Ryan and his girlfriend have been in a car accident. Apparently, someone rammed into their car. His girlfriend is fine but Ryan was injured. He has a concussion from where he hit his head on the window and lost a fair amount of blood from where a broken piece of glass cut him. But it is nothing life threatening. We will keep an eye on the concussion but he can be moved to normal room in a couple of hours."

Both Kirsten and Sandy breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank you doctor, can we see him?"

"He is currently getting stitches, but he should be back in a few minutes. I’ll ask a nurse to get you then. In the meantime, you might want to wait with his girlfriend. She is really nervous because no one can tell her anything about Ryan since she is not family. But I strongly advice you to talk to Ryan. We did a blood test and found a remarkably high alcohol level in his blood. He wasn’t driving but I still have to report it, because he is underage."

Kirsten nodded her thanks to the Doctor but turned to Sandy immediately: "Drinking? Ryan? AGAIN? And Girlfriend, since when does Ryan have a new girlfriend? Is he back with Marissa? What was he doing in her car? And why was he drinking?"

"Kirsten, calm down" Sandy answered while steering her into the waiting room around the corner. "I don’t know what he was doing tonight and he is probably back together with Marissa... you know these two, always.... " But he didn’t finish the sentence, since Kirsten stopped in her track and gave a surprise "Oh".

There in the corner sat a girl with a UPMC sweater and she looked old. Too old for Ryan.

The girl looked up when she heard the footsteps. "Are you Ryan’s parents? I’m Emma. I am so sorry. How is Ryan?"

"The doctor said he is going to be ok. He has a concussion and some blood lose. But he will be just fine."

"Oh that’s great." She led out a relieved breath, finally relaxing a bit."I was so worried; I didn’t see the other car. We had such a great night. But after the car hit us, he was unconscious and there was blood everywhere. I thought I lost him," Emma started crying. Kirsten wanted to console her and ask innumerable questions. Just as she wanted to ask how they have met, a nurse came in, asking if they want to see Ryan. "He is sleeping. We gave him something to relax so that he won’t move his head too much. But if you are being quite, you can go and see him for a while."

Eager to finally see Ryan, the Cohen’s didn’t notice Emma following them into the room.

"Oh my god, look how white he is. He looks awful, Sandy." Kirsten exclaimed, as she went over to Ryan’s bed and kiss him on the forehead.

"I know Kirsten, but remember, the doctor said he will be fine" Sandy answered, while stroking Ryan’s arm."Let’s take these chairs and sit down. Hopefully he will wake up soon. But knowing him, he’ll want to stay asleep for as long as possibly, since he knows about the lecture that’s coming for him."

"I still can’t believe that he snuck out of the house and got drunk." Kirsten said, but without any anger. She was just happy that Ryan is ok.

"I am sorry", Emma sobbed "that is my fault. Today was my last day of spring break. Tomorrow I have to go back to college and I wanted to spend the night with Ryan. We shouldn’t have been drinking, I know. But I convinced him to come to my friends place with me tonight. And he is such a good boyfriend; I know that he would do anything for me."

Sandy answered" I just wish he would listen to us parents ones in a while and stay home when we ground him. He is a great son, but sometimes I just wonder, if he isn’t doing too much to please his girlfriend."

"Girlfriend? How long have you known each other? How come we didn’t know that he had a girlfriend." Kirsten asked, looking slightly curious at this girl she has never seen before. But she looked familiar.

"I... we have officially been dating since 2 month now, but we have been having the most amazing sex since we first met at the December Newport Gala." Emma was smiling at herself, thinking about this found memory. Until she looked at Ryan’s parents and started blushing, realizing that she is talking to a set of concerned parents and not her girlfriends. br />
Sandy looked livid. He couldn’t believe that Ryan was dating someone for so long without him knowing about it. Dating? Not even dating... random sex. He just couldn’t understand this boy sometimes.

And Kirsten’s face turned an extremely dark shade of red, but she said "I thought he was dating Sadie early this year"

Emma, now totally embarrassed whispered "Well, they never said they are exclusive."

"Emma, how old are you? " Sandy barked out.

Emma whispered, "Twenty-five."

"25? You’re 25? You know that Ryan isn’t even 18 yet. You know that what you are doing is illegal. I could ..." But Sandy couldn’t finish his sentence. The door burst open and an extremely agitated looking woman entered and approached Emma

"Emma, baby, are you alright? What happened?"

"Mom, some guy rammed into my car. I am fine, but Ryan got hurt."

"Oh poor baby" Emma’s mom went over to the hospital bed and stroking Ryan’s hand "Will he be okay;"

Kirsten and Sandy were too flustered to verbally answer, so Kirsten just nodded.

How come she knows Ryan and we don’t know Emma. How can she touch him? Do they know each other so well? Kirsten’s thoughts were disrupted by Emma’s Mom holding out her hand.

"Hi, I am Marylin Thompson. Emma’s mom and you must be Ryan’s parents."

Marylin Thompson. This name rings a bell. Kirsten feels as if the name should hold an importance to her. But she can’t place it. Instead she holds out her hand and introduces herself.

" I am Kirsten Cohen and this is my husband, Sandy."

At the name Kirsten Cohen, both Emma and her mom grew rigid and tense. You could practically feel the tension looming in the room.

"Kirsten Cohen?" Marylin and Emma exclaimed at the same time.

"Yes" Kirsten stammered. Has she done something wrong? "Yes I am Kirsten Cohen, do we know each other?"

Emma’s face turned angry and she pointed at Ryan "So Ryan is the kid you didn’t give away?"

Kirsten frowned at this statement, not knowing what Emma meant. Marylin looked at Kirsten, her eyes a mixture of gratefulness and anger. And Sandy just started between the women, now knowing what is going on either.

After a moment of silence, Kirsten began to comprehend. You could see the change in her face - moving from confusion to shame and finally to complete and utter shock.

Emma registered the change in her face and scornfully asked "So you do remember me? Your daughter?"

The room was so silent that you could hear Sandy’s sharp intake of breath. Nobody said anything. Until there was a barely audible whisper. "Kirsten? You have a daughter" And four sets of eyes turned to Ryan’s bed.
