Not sure anyone reads this any more but still might be interesting to see if you do! Also posted in the other place....
There seems to certain unwritten rules for Gumtree and similar 'small ads' not sure if they are restricted to Plymouth but I keep seeing:
"Genuine reason for sale" - as opposed to what a false reason?
"No time wasters" - are there actually people who deliberately go around wasting sellers time? If there are, surely they are not going to be sat there going 'bugger, can't waste this person's time they said not to'
"Or nearest offer" - which translates as I don't want or expect this much for the item - so why not put the price you want then?! See also "Must sell quickly"
"First to see will buy" - how's that working out for you then? The advert has now been there for a week and you've just cut the price for the 3rd time.
"Reluctant sale" - I'm interested in the item not your personal feelings and too much info makes you seem creepy and weird.
Peculiar to car sales....
The refusal/inability to use adverbs "Drives perfect" or using an adjective as an adverb "Drives lovely" being the most common examples.
Lots of paperwork/history - translates as unreliable car, been back and forth from garage all its life.
I'm sure there are more.
