better than president's day...

President's Day is one of those holidays you don't think much about, but it was very special for me this time around. Saturday, Shy came to visit!

He flew in to Columbus, visited a friend or two, then came down to Cincinnati. I was still in bed when he arrived, so not wanting to wake me, he waited till I got up. Here he had been waiting for at least an hour - I felt horrible. We gave each other a big hug and waited till Ben arrived for dinner.

We went to Camp Washington Chili and let Shy try the hometown favorite. Between the three of us, Shy got to try just about everything one could have with Cincinnati style chili on it... cheese fries, sandwiches, spaghetti and even some goetta. Next thing I knew, it was time to head back home and get ready for work... the night couldn't have been longer.

Sunday morning I came home only to find an empty apartment. Shy decided to stay with Ben, so I went to bed and was woken up later by the both of them and Doug, who tagged along.

For dinner, they decided to go to Sultan's Mediterranean. Not too much into Mediterranean, but the food was decent - the price...... not so much. Mid-dinner, Deyna Otter came by and joined us. Afterward, we hung outside the restaurant and talked about an hour; the staff probably just waiting for us to go. Finally getting back home, Ben decided to call it a night leaving Doug, Shy and myself to chat about another hour or so till it was time to take Doug back home.

Afterward, I decided to take Shy on a late night whirlwind tour of the city. I drove him by some of the more familiar places downtown... the Aronoff, Taft Theater, Great American Ball Park, Paul Brown Stadium, the Carew Tower, Music Hall, and P&G headquarters. We then proceeded to one of my favorite buildings, the Union Terminal - home of the Cincinnati Museum Center. Of course the museums were closed, but the facility remains open because of the late night arrivals from Amtrak. One can still walk under the massive rotunda and around some of the amazing art deco architecture. Grant, it wasn't much - but its the best one can do on a late night Sunday. We took some pictures and headed back home.

I thought before Shy headed back to Columbus, I could take him to a breakfast buffet at Frisch's. Thinking I could try to get myself to sleep early, we got to bed around five only to find myself awake the rest of the night; though I might have dozed here and there a little. By the time Shy got some sleep and woke up - it was too close for the buffet to end... I ended staying up and kept Shy company. 2 o' clock rolled around, we hugged once more, and said our good byes (for now). Then it was time to get to bed... for reals.

Having Shy over the holiday weekend was great... trying to host was the bad part. Until I get a job with better hours, things just won't ever be the same.
