From a circa 2000 phone call with my brother T.J. and his wife Cindy, where Cindy revealed she had not liked the film version of A Simple Plan:

"It should've been called A Stupid Plan! I mean, what was the point of the movie: 'Don't trust Gary Cole'?!"

What makes it funnier to me is that I doubt she'd seen Office Space yet when she said that. (I had; I saw it when it first came out, well before its cult started.) I wish I could've said I knew not to trust Gary Cole all the way back to American Gothic, but I never saw that show.
