Nicely done, Serenity; I saw the film on Friday night, after I realized I hadn’t been to a movie since the end of August. I was an utter newbie, never having seen the original show Firefly, but went to Serenity on the vociferous advice of many people I trust. I’m not (as we geeks say) “having a geekgasm” over it - the movie didn’t truly grab me ( Read more... )

Figured you for a Browncoat... happyspector October 10 2005, 23:12:19 UTC
... And I'm guessing that River is as much your type as she is mine.

Are we in agreement that Summer Glau would be the ideal movie-Sally?

Mmmmm. I'm not a Browncoat, but I have, erm, people I can borrow the coat from, if you get my meanin'.

re: Summer/Sally

Hmmm... Actually, you'd know better than I would: are you likely to see someone like Summer Glau in Vermont? She seems almost too exotic for the part. It's much easier for me to picture Jena Malone in Brattleboro...

Aye, though Sally just happens into Brattleboro, and should be somewhat out of place on some level, to the degree that anyone can be out of place in a melting pot of freaks such as Brattleboro. Either Glau or Malone would be great as the character, for similar reasons. I can also see Anna Paquin slipping quite well into the role, though the emphasis would be almost completely different, in terms of aspects of the character.

Both Malone and Glau would play Sally the quiet, conflicted escentric very well, slightly scary and off-kilter, yet heartbreakingly sweet and vulnerable when falling in love with Rob, though Glau would come off tougher. Paquin's Sally would likewise seem a good match for Rob (assuming we have a well-cast Rob), though she'd also be more of a foil to him, bringing a greater sense of how much more realistically she's seeing things, and why she's hesitant.
