A small lesson, on this last day of 2023
This is on my mind for multiple reasons, a couple of which I won’t share, but it applies to me and to lots of people:
You are never owed an audience.
No matter how smart you are, people won’t necessarily listen to you. Not when you speak, or when you post, or when you blog, or when you’re standing in Speakers’ Corner in London’s Hyde Park.
Maybe you want to speak. Maybe you feel you have Important, Needed Points. Maybe you’re sure you’re funny.
But…just don’t treat the world as your lecture hall, or your stand-up comedy club where you’re crafting your Tight Five, or your TED Talk.
