2006 Reflect-a-thon

It's that time of the year, folks. What can I say, I'm a sentimental guy.

January - rang in the new year with Will, asked Will to be my boyfriend, started (and completed) university applications, housesat for my flute teacher, almost had my retinas eaten out by his angry birds, read Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

Feburary - turned 19, first drunken adventures, first hangovers (puked so hard it came out my nose), first hungover flute lesson, first credit card, traveled to Montreal, explored Montreal, joked around with some of Canada's most successful flutists, had the worst audition of my life, experienced the ending of what was the last official relationship of the year, went to the Embassy for the first (of many, many) times, read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saunt Exupery

March - became good friends with Greg, read Memories of Rain by Sunetra Guptha, waited impatiently for April to come

April - traveled to BC, had the best audition of my life, had my heart re-broken and subsequently stopped being a masochist with Jay, made eye contact with George Strombolopolous, traveled to New York and played piccolo in a youth orchestra competition, was melodramatic in a hotel room, started dating Doug

May - won first place in the Kiwanis flute competition, learned that I should always bow, read The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood

June - stopped dating Doug, turned into a makeout whore, experienced first anonymous drunken violence, continued in the Tamar-Dina-Chris tradition of Toronto Pride, purchased Belvedere

July - moved into new apartment with Claudine, was accepted to UBC, rescued a kitty, saw an explosion in downtown Hamilton (on the set of the shooting of the movie Talk to Me), met my soulmate (I'll find you again someday)

August - had my first recital, drank far too much, quit the call centre, moved to BC, did not change my address with the government

September - got an audition together in 6 days and didn't suck too bad for it, started school, questioned my future, met many, many new friends

October, November, December - moved in with Sarah, tried to jump-start my brain back up, didn't try hard enough, tried not to fail school, thankfully succeeded at that, avoided meningitis, spent too much money on presents for my family, spent much quality time, had many danceathons, kissed a man with a libret piercing, had the most awkward sort-of-dating experience to date, started work at Starbucks, almost quit school to be a bartender and slack off for the rest of my life, had a change of heart, enjoyed myself greatly.

Overall, it was a good year; I'm on the right track, and the future isn't quite so muddy any more.
