Whoa! I didn't even know this had happened -- goes to show how out of touch.

So what happened with that? You're okay and everything, I take it :-)

I once saw an anvil cloud pass right over my street when I lived in the Midwest. But that ain't supposed to happen in Atlanta.

Yes, I am alright. Myself and the Puppy made it thru it all ok. The Tornado hit about one mile from where I live and the path went on for six miles thru downtown Atlanta! They still are unsure of the cost of damages - somewhere in the hundreds of millions ( ... )

Thanks for copying/pasting, Chris! I went over to Scott's journal -- he pops by and chats to me on mine now and again :-) -- but saw that it is indeed locked.

Oh
my
God.

I would think the same thing if I heard a tornado warning in Atlanta, "HELLO? We're in a major city -- the conditions aren't right for one here."

Wow.

Global warming is not just about warming -- it's also about extreme weather phenomenon. Apparently, we've only begun to see this kind of event happen. A tornado in Atlanta? You wouldn't even credit it.

Too bad tornadoes don't try to follow all of the Peachtree and Ponce De Leon streets in that city -- it would've run out of steam and disappeared at an intersection.

Glad that Scott, you and Toby are okay.

part two of Scott's Story chris_online April 17 2008, 17:32:46 UTC
Toby and i climbed into my truck with the gym bag of a few clothes that i grab before l left the building and wove our way through the debris to mid-town where my bf lives. it struck me how just a few blocks away there was no sign of anything having happened. here your whole world has just turned upside down and other people where out and about doing thier friday night thing. so now it is sunday, and they are only allowing residents to come for 15 minutes at a time during certain hours to gather thier belongings that they might need. i glad that they have it secured in that manner. but there is no telling how long it will take to peice it back together. some people have lost everything and some units where hardly touched. i have not been back yet so i don't know for sure how my apartment fared. i am alive and not injuried, and Toby is just fine. that is the most important. no body was killed and the injuries where not life threating. which is amazing considering the amount of damage. make it a point to say i love you to ( ... )

It is amazing that nobody was killed. They're really frightening, tornadoes are -- I mean, yeah, obviously, but unless you've ever been right next to one, you have no idea.

The stormfront that I saw was putting down funnel clouds here, there and everywhere, but missed us. It had hit to the west of us, and it put down another one right to the east of us.

I'll never forget the greenish color the air took or the way everything was deadly still, then the oak trees across the street in front of our neighbor's house nearly bent in half when the wind hit them. And the straightness of the clouds where the two air masses were fighting it out. c r a z y
