If you give a man a fish...

If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.

If you teach a man to fish, you'll provide fishing tech support for the rest of your life. He'll come to you when his rod breaks, or when his line snarls. He'll skip steps in the "how to" document you spent time writing up, then ask you for help every single time it doesn't work. He'll miss the part about baiting the hook, and ask you for help when he doesn't catch anything. He'll complain when his feet get wet, and miss the part where you told him "First, put on hip waders." He won't know what hip waders are or where to find them (in fact, he won't want to know, because that's "techie jargon"). He'll snag the hook on his pants or in his eye and come to you for help. Eventually he'll get frustrated, and you'll get frustrated, and you'll both realize that he never really wanted to learn to fish, he just wants a fish once every couple of weeks. And in a couple of weeks, he'll have forgetten everything you've tried to teach him, so you'll start all over.....

Better to just give him the fish.
