Okay, so he was an asshole. It wasn't anything he didn't already know, wasn't anything he'd been able to change. He was an asshole, pure and simple. Always had been and always would be.
But, he was slowly realizing that maybe he needed to stop making that an excuse.
Somehow.
Frowning, Chris sat in the main area of the Hamlet, stoking a small fire in the middle of the afternoon sun. There wasn't any flame anymore, just bright hot coals, which would be perfect for cooking on when the time came. He poked at it with a long, fresh twig and sent crackling sparks into the air. He'd called it an early day on the crew and had already had his shower and something light to eat up at the Compound, told Lennox he'd meet him back home.
It was pretty much exactly what he'd been doing for the past week or so, every day just like the one before it. The crew felt weird without Mike on the team, Chris couldn't deny that. And he knew Lennox sensed it too, maybe wondered if Lennox blamed him or resented him for asking to have Mike removed. Hell, Chris couldn't really blame him if he did. He wouldn't be the first.
Sighing, Chris tore his gaze from the fire and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and letting his head hang as his eyes closed.
He needed to stop being an asshole.
