Ceremony!

They'd taken the opportunity to sleep-in somewhat, only rousing for a moment to let Hal out before slipping under the covers for a few more hours, though only some of that time was actually spent sleeping. Finally, after Chris had gotten tired of the sound of his own stomach rumbling, they'd dragged themselves out and got dressed, Lennox ( Read more... )

It doesn't really feel like an Occasion. He's not sure how he'd put it into words, but it doesn't really feel like any wedding he's ever been to. The closest it gets to is Danny and Clay's, the same feeling of it close and sweet and simple with the words being said at the center of everything.

The words probably do a lot to set it apart, too.

If he ever gets married--which he still can't see himself doing--he thinks maybe he'd like it to be something like this.

With a somewhat shy smirk curving his lips, Chris walked up to Mike later, one hand stuffed in his pocket, the other linked with Lennox's.

"Well," he said rather casually as he gave Lennox's hand a squeeze, "think we figured out a way for you to hurt me that Jim won't beat you up over." His voice is teasing, but with a hint of something else beneath it. Grateful, likely, but quietly so.

"Hardee fucking hah, assholes," Lennox retorted with a snort of laughter, rolling his eyes a little bit, although it was obviously good natured. "This better not become some kind of habit either. Last thing I need is a husband so covered in burns that he's utterly useless to me."

He was grinning, though, at them both. At Mike and then back at Chris and then at Mike again.

"You said yes," Mike points out. "I was just throwing it out there. He didn't have to say yes." He hadn't expected him to say yes, and it had been more than a little bit of a shock when he had. And now what he feels, primarily, is pride.

And he's not sure how to feel about that.

"You like it, though?" he asks Lennox, half grinning. "I mean, you haven't hit me or anything yet, so..."

Holding back a quiet laugh, Chris squeezed Lennox's hand again and gave him a fond smile, his gaze lingering slightly on the curve of Lennox's jaw. It was a look that didn't quite seem to be looking for approval, but almost so.

"Well, he didn't vomit when he first saw it, so I took that as a good sign," Chris said for him, a grin still splitting his face.

Nudging Chris with his elbow, Lennox laughed and nodded at Mike. "Yeah, man, I like it. I mean, it fucking stunned me at first, but I like it." It was the biggest thing anyone had ever done for him, but he didn't know how to say that without sounding like a complete fucking idiot.

"It's a good thing you didn't fuck it up, then I might not like it so much," he teased, grinning.

"Yeah, well, he was a fucking trooper," he says, feeling a mix of relief and pleasure flush through him. Chris's opinion of it had been hugely important--it's his skin, after all. But it had really ultimately been for Lennox and if Lennox likes it then it had been worth it.

"Now this thing really has to be permanent or we'll all feel like idiots."

"Well, I figure if he ever comes to his senses and leaves me, I'll get you to burn on a few other letters. An 'F' and a 'U' should do the trick."

It was obvious he was teasing though, his hand still clasped warmly around Lennox's and his grin bright. It was strange to think how far the three of them had come. Largely because Chris could never make anything simple, but it seemed okay now, everything had evened out and calmed down and he finally had his two of his best friends and could be happy with it.

Lennox nudged Chris harder at that, even though they were all teasing and he wasn't really annoyed at all. It was kind if impossible to anything but happy on a day like today.

"Thanks, man," he said to Mike, even as he nudged Chris with his elbow once more. "For doing it, I mean. I dunno if I'd like it if anyone else did it." It would've felt kind of weird.

"Yeah, 'cause I've got such great history with hurting Chris," he says, grinning. "Seriously, I was glad to." It had meant a lot, to be asked. Maybe more than he fully understands.

"Oh, hey," he says suddenly, reaching into his pocket where there's kind of a largeish bulge. He pulls out a small bottle of clear liquid with a purple label and holds it out. It had been sort of a wrench... but he has two others. He'll deal.

"Congratulations." He winks. "Don't go using it all in one place."

Lennox's remark actually came as something of a surprise to Chris and he arched an eyebrow slightly and nearly made a comment about how pissed he'd gotten whenever Mike had hurt him in the past.

Though, okay, maybe it was a little different this time around. An injury with a larger purpose of some kind.

It didn't matter anyway, his attention diverted to the bottle Mike was offering and his brow furrowed slightly in curiosity before he reached out for what. "What is-- ohh," he said, feeling his face warm with alarm quickness.

Lennox noticed what it was before Chris did and when he looked at the bottle in Mike's hand, he almost immediately began to laugh, anticipating the way Chris would blush at it as soon as he realized what it was.

"He's blushing," he said, trying to hold back his giggles as he looked over at Chris, watching as his face flushed. "What the fuck, man, are you seriously giving us lube for a wedding present?"

"Yeah," he says, raising his eyebrows. "Sure. Why not? It's not like you won't use it." He glances over at Chris and feigns a look of utter confusion at the blushing. He can't resist giving him just a little bit of shit about it, not when his face looks like that.

"It's good stuff, man. Don't turn it down."

"I'm not turning it down," Chris replied, though he did make sure to the label was hidden in his palm as he wrapped his hand around it and glanced up, checking to make sure nobody was taking too much interest.

It was maybe a strange gift, but considering it was Mike of all people, it also made a strange sort of sense. Hell, Mike was the guy with two significant others and the guy who'd burned Lennox's initials into his arm, he figured Mike was probably well aware of the kinds of things Lennox and Chris got up to when the lights were out.

"Just, you know... shouldn't let Emmy see this. She might try and drink it."

"Yeah, she might, but that's not why you're trying to hide it," Lennox teased gleefully, squeezing Chris's hand tightly as he bounced a little on his heels in excitement. It was a pretty damn good present, considering what they were stuck using as an alternative.

"You're trying to hide it because you're embarrassed," he added happily. "Like people don't already hear us doing it, man."

"It does sorta carry when the wind's right," he says dryly, shoving his hands back into his pockets and rocking back on his heels a little. "Then again, I'm not exactly quiet, so I probably shouldn't talk."

It should be weird, standing here talking about this kind of thing at a wedding, with Hobbes and Eostre and his daughters barely yards away. What's really weird is how weird it isn't.
