It was getting late before Chris finally made his way back to the hut. Too late and he already knew Lennox would either be worried or angry or a fun combination of both. But, after his talk with Mike, after all the emotions it'd sparked in him, he'd needed a couple hours to walk around and calm the hell down. He'd spent most of that on the beach, his mind whirling, trying desperately to figure out a way to either leave or just-- just make it stop.
He had a list in his head now. Sookie. Benton. Hope. Billy. Amy. Clarice. And now Sirius. Who the fuck was next? If Sirius of all people could disappear, then who the hell was safe?
Nobody.
And he'd known that, too. He'd always known that. It was just getting harder and harder to ignore.
A branch crunched under his foot as he approached the hut and he cursed softly, just to have something to curse at. His lips still tugged in a frown, he pushed the blanket aside and stepped in, his head lowered already. Guilty.
"Hey," he said quietly, searching for Lennox's outline in the darkness.
