A nice team episode, without the team being there. Very nicely balanced.
Teal’c - gone Jaffa… err ok so so he has gone native. Bad joke. He is gone back to the Jaffa, who I must admit, we haven’t really seen in a while. But I am glad that they are still in the picture. The whole attack on Teal’c made me want to recite a few lines of Monty Python… “It’s just a flesh wound!” I thought it very clever to see him spread the rumor that he was indeed hit, but was badly wounded. And when the bounty hunter came in, he had even wrapped his whole middle. I wonder, does he still have that X as a scar now? Interesting, I know. Teal’c is just still looking hunky. He may just have been laying around and not a lot of “character development” but what can you do when you have a bounty on your head?
Sam - It’s awesome to see her FINALLY doing some out there media promotion if you will. And it is sad that Dr. Bill Lee has to dumb down his technology. Dr. Lee is one of my favorite reaccuring characters. Anyway… Sam does have the stinted, you are stuck in the conference - not well attended, I might add by the looks of the audience. Why weren’t we asked? - but she was so good at it. Did you see her hunk up that gun and shoot? Ok and in the beginning there is also the fact of the mission the TEAM was going on. *whoo hoo*
Daniel - *sigh* Can the man get any hotter? Hello! Jeans! *doooool* Sorry. Ahem. So ya him on a mission - so nice to see him back where he belongs - and then him doing what he does best, research and reading in a library! And, by a show of hands, how many of us were not once swayed by the “oh I am making an innocent pass at the hunky man in the library”? Ya, thought so. My theory, besides that Daniel can see through stupid bounty hunters out of their element, but he didn’t go for the pass because (non-shippers skip for your own stomach contents) he luvs Sam. *happy, content, and perhaps disalusional shipper sigh* But Daniel also does the second thing he does best - sooth over situations. He is the one to give the high school reunion people the “calm down, everything is ok” speech. No problem honey, how about a hug to make it feel better too?
And obviously this episode focuses on Vala and Cam. Oh yes! My second favorite ship - Cam and Vala. Cam is obviously annoyed to have Vala come glue herself to him. Interesting that everyone else had something to do. Maybe Daniel has changed and will no longer be DanielwithValaintow? Shall we live in blissland?
I thought Vala meeting Cam’s parents cute. Of course that does throw a monkey wrench in my re-write of S10, The Mitchell Project. Ah ya… but that is more like an AU anyway. Opps, shameless pimping of ones fic. But the whole “sex, sex, sex all throughout the house” and even in ever room of the house. Hmm Vala has thought a bit about our dear Cam *points to the man* HELLO! I would be very embarresed too if I was Cam. And the eating of pie - with Cam it’s all about the pie.
An old flame, Vala looking like Daisy-Duke - even Cam alludes to that by calling her “Daisy” to Gen. Landry. And Vala being hit on by Cam’s old friend. And throw in some bounty hunters. Yeah!
We learn a bit about both Cam and Vala. Cam that he was shy in high school and his old flame just happens to be divorced. He graduated in ’87, so he would be about 37 or 38 depending on how old he was when he graduated. So he is a bit younger then the rest of the team, if you subscribe to the theory that Sam is in her early 40s. That and with Cam, love doesn’t die, he is a torch carrier of sorts. Romantic.
Vala, well she is just like one of those Russian dolls, or my favorite analogy, an onion. She has been married before, and I am sure if Cam would have let her continue, we would have learned about a few more. Also she is up to flirting, but does have her boundaries. She does have some line where she knows it would be wrong to cross. Now if it’s because she really does still love Tomin, or it was because she did not want Derrick to continue his advancement on her, she tells him she is married. And with her vast knowledge of people, she is able to spot the bounty hunter and have Derrick be a distraction.
Shipper Notes: An obvious squee is the Cam and Vala ship. But even better, for us S/D types… we do have a few goodies. Sam and Daniel are obviously next to each other for a lot of the team moments. When they beam back after the mission, they are standing side by side. And after the main mission, they are standing side by side. In fact it’s Sam who pulls the plug on Daniel’s hologram speech. Ok so maybe it’s some stretch, but we are the kings and queens of the small things. *g*
Yeah!!! Can't wait for next weeks! I don't want to think about the series end... *laa laa laaalalala* in denial, since this show will forever go on. I shall leave before I need a hanky!
