I thought the backlash on the whole Miss California was way blown up too. If you are going to ask a question you know (or suspect) could lead to an answer you don't agree with, you better be prepared for it. Don't be offended. And certainly don't go out and blog about it calling her a bitch and other nasty names. That is uncalled for.
Opinions are like butts - everyone has one. AND not all are alike. I think we all need to learn to stop and listen and think. We are busy and quick to look at a comment and not think there is a reason why they say or believe that. It's my country and I have a say on how it's being run. It's your country too and you have a say also. It may not be the same, but that doesn't mean we can rationally talk about it. Intelligent conversations with real thought, substance and being willing to listen to the other side, are so rare these days.
Debates used to be about learning about the other side and maybe helping you understand WHY they thought that way. Now it's a match on who can scream the loudes, longest and bring the most people down with them. I love rallies, meetings, marches and the like, because numbers mean something, but not when it becomes us v. them and neigher side can look at the other and see there is a person. I don't belive in somethings, but that doesn't mean I am going to shut down everyone who has the oppisite view.
I hope to have this com as a learning and growing place and bring back the civilized debate. And no, I don't want to live in a place where I am dictated to believe one way, and scolded if I express the other side. Every debate has one or more sides.
