Still breathing

I have a fear that my account will die if I don't post something on it at least once a year.

I think a full update on my life by now would be impossible; what's happened since September 2005?

  • New Job, much like the old job.
  • General slobbing, and purchase of toys
  • New creative stuff - FFT, Labyrinth etc
  • New house, joint with Girlf

The house is pretty cool, for London anyway. Got spare crash space, if ever I win the war against the boxes.

I'm now a "Team Leader", so no longer technical. This means I've lost all ability to use tags properly in LJ. Interesting to note, the lowest level of the "management" career path calls people leaders. Then you go to being a manager, and apparently stop needing leadership skills, because those you manage are leaders themselves. Finally, you end up as a director, and suddenly people call you a leader all over again. Just more signs of the way the job market finds people who are good at what they do, then promote them into incompetance.

"You there, you look good at writing HTML? Better than anyone else here? Right, stop that and be a leader instead. Use those people skills you've shown no signs of having. What, you're good at that too? Then stop it at once, and do this management thing. Look after budgets & projects, see if you're any good with paperwork. That'll stop you being productive."

Why am I writing an update now? Displacement activity. I'm studying again. After this, I'll probably clean the entire house, sharpen some pencils & make a hot cup of tea.
