NCIS 8.24

May 18, 2011 13:51

I have thoughts about Kort and Ziva and Gibbs and Vance - but not McGee, because the writers forgot his existence or something, IDK - but apparently they take a back seat to Tony's ass. (Sorry!) (Not really, though.) My initial reactions, mostly cobbled together from comments I have made all over the internet, because it seems that I can't shut up about this episode even though I didn't even love it all that much.

I'm glad they didn't kill EJ in the opening scene. We wouldn't have gotten Tony and EJ making sexy!eyes at each other at the end, and I did really enjoy that.

That was a really nice shot of Tony's ass as he's leaning over Cade to press on the wound. Rawr.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Tony can come over and break my hand anytime. Seriously. That made me get all tingly in the good way.

My biggest complaint about this episode is that it was pretty much fakeout after fakeout. There was no down time to process the poignant emotional moments like Abby being upset over Ziva's kidnapping and Franks' funeral. It was exhausting. I am simultaneously frazzled and unfulfilled, and that's never how I want to feel after an hour with my TV booooyfriend of watching TV.

I loved the bullpen scene at the very end, or I did once we got past McGee and Cade. It was chill and understated and, had it been the end of the episode, it would have been a nice sendoff for the summer. Tony and EJ are totes going back to her place tonight and having goodbye sex. Also, Tony said something nice about Gibbs. And then Gibbs smiiiiiled. ♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!!♥♥!!♥!!!!!!!!!1111

...Sorry. My fingers got away from me for a minute.

So the show lulled me into a false sense of security with the bullpen scene and Ray and Ziva's goodbye, and then BAM! Turns out the new SecNav is a sneaky, weaselly douche. Toooooooony.

Tony's body language in that scene... D: He looked like he was going to his own execution. I'm curious about how he and Vance will play off each other next season. Rocky Carroll and Michael Weatherly have good chemistry, kind of this love-hate thing, and I want to see more.

They did a good job of bookending, I guess. I started and ended this episode with the same reaction: “Oh, Tooooony. Tony, no! Noooo. OMG, Tonyyy.”

From the esteemed showrunner:

The new SECNAV said there’s an agent at NCIS selling top secret information, and he handed Tony a folder and told him to handle it. It’s a character that we’ve already met?

Yes. And that story line will probably pick up in the season opener. That’s definitely something that will impact the team. I’m not sure yet how long it will go on, but it will definitely have ramifications that we’ll follow through for awhile.

Glasberg sounds like those fic writers who start a story without an outline, and plot the next chapter on the train on their way to work every day. Next thing you know, the planned 15 chapter casefic is a 60 part-and-counting rambly mess with no end in sight that you don't want to abandon because, even though it sucks now, there are glimmers of a brilliant plot and good characterization somewhere in there, and all you can think as you scroll to the end of part 60 is, “Wow, this needs a beta.” Don't make me think you need a beta, Gary Glasberg!
