I stopped reading Terry Goodkind when he dedicated one of his books to the US Intelligence Community, saying that they work unceasingly for peace and liberty while being (if I remember this correctly) constrained by the shackles of evil that would demonize them. While I don't believe the various US intelligence organizations are some sort of evil madmen plotting in our midst, I do believe that power corrupts, and that they have had way too much power in our government in the last 60 years. Well, now Orson Scott Card (who has a weekly column in a Greensboro, NC newspaper - who knew?) has a column this week that really galls me. The source of our country's problems? The residents of "Smartland": Godless abortionist soft-subject intellectuals. Admittedly, he has no love for Dubya, but he feels that Dubya is far less of a threat to this country than your average furious-yet-impotent university professor:
