I hear it is a great time to buy a house.

After almost half a year of trying, Susan and I are finally taking the first actual steps towards home ownership. Hopefully it will be somewhat straight forward from here on out, with just lots of paper work and sitting around waiting for the closing, oh yeah, and giving lots of money to lots of people.

I had started writing up a bit long ramble about our trials and tribulations of getting this far, but it was incredibly long and boring. So let me do this quickly.

We had tried to buy this house, but through lazyness, incompetence, bureaucratic bumbling, or a combination of all of them, we were unable to. We just couldn't get any responses from them. It has been five months since we put in an offer, and there was about a week where there was some sort of response, followed by nothing. I don't get it.

Anyway, we then tried to buy this house.

But we got outbid when we put in an offer. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

BUT WAIT!

What is this! The people who outbid us are not only idiots for bidding much more than the house is worth, they are also idiots for having their bid being contingent on them selling their house, which then failed inspection. So they are retracting their offer and that means that ours has been accepted!

Holy Shit. We are buying a house. After five months of trying, things are actually happening.

Unfortunately we are paying a little more than we probably had to, because of the schmucks who started the bidding war, but it isn't awful, and it is a nice house, in a good area, so we can't complain too much.

Of course who knows what will happen now. It still needs to get inspected, have lawyers pour over the paper work, and we need to get a mortgage (mort means death, right?). We have until the end of June to get this all worked out (and get the family living there out), so we have time, and then...

4th of July party at our place?

edit: I don't think my pictures were linking, so there are hot links now if you want to see the houses. stupid computer.

edit:edit: I'm sorry for calling the people who outbid us idiots and schmucks. I'm sure they are feeling very bad about having to give up this house. I hope them the best in selling their house and getting a new home.
