the dentist...

i went to the dentist for the fourth time in about two months, in about ten years, today.

it wasn't as bad as it could have been. when i went in for the first time i only had four cavities, one in each quadrant, and a little staining. the hygienist was sick that day, so i needed another appointment for a cleaning plus two appointments for fillings (two teeth each time, after they checked my insurance to make sure i was good for it).

as the end result of all this i have two very cold sensitive teeth on my right side (three weeks after the fillings) and a grey dot on the side of one of my teeth on the left side. The fourth filling is actually not bothering me, even though while drilling it out i started feeling a little pain.

no gas either. when i was a kid seeing Dr. Brady in Bennington i would always get "the gas" when i had fillings, which is why i think i had so many fillings as a kid. but now, just a little topical anesthetic, which tastes like lollipops covering something horribly bitter, and some Novocaine. i've never had Novocaine shot into my mouth before (just into my temple after a run in with a german shepard) but it was really just a slight pinch. I have to hand it to Dr. Ju, he is very handy with the needle.

anyways, after ten years of questionable oral hygiene, i am for the most part in good shape. I kind of like the grey dot that shows up when i do a really big toothy grin, or bare my teeth in a threatening manner.

of course i have up until now left out the fact that one of my wisdom teeth has some strange paleness around the root that showed up in the x-ray from my first visit. i will wholeheartedly admit that i am putting off calling a specialist to have this checked out. i like having all of my teeth and when i mean all of my teeth, i mean all of my teeth, all of my teeth, all of my teeth (sorry, just watched The Aviator), all of my teeth.

but i guess i shouldn't put it off anymore. i can't use the fact that i have a bunch of other dentist appointments as an excuse anymore. maybe on monday while at work. if i think about it. nah... probably not, training half the day and incompetent paul's (as opposed to telecom paul, mullet paul, network paul (now defunct) and dave paul (also now defunct)) last day. we're having a pizza party. whoohoo!

when i refer to people as defunct i only mean they are no longer working were i work. dave paul is working closer to home and network paul is working with OFT, i see him on the walk to work sometimes.
