I was making some pasta for an afternoon snack, and I went to pull a noodle out...and ended up getting some of the boiling water running down the wooden spoon and onto the back of my right hand. You know...it burned.
Unlike the palms of my hands, the backs of my hands aren't used to being burnt...so it hurts like a mofo. I can type with it, so at least I'll get my homework done...but that doesn't make it comfortable. The funny thing is that there is a noticeable decrease in pain during each bite of food that I take. Which reminds me of a little bit of 'fun' I had back when I was eighteen.
I had just graduated high school, and was on my way to my best friend Damien's house. His mom had the free paper that was to be delivered to everyone in town, and for delivering to all on my side of the town, I was gonna make $10. On my way out the door, my younger brother was coming out to go somewhere in the same direction. He had his mountain bike, and I had my Huffy from christmas of 1987. As you can no doubt imagine, we started racing. I had him by 5.5 years, I figured I could still beat him.
Well, I got into about the 7th or 8th downpedal when my chain came off and my foot slipped off the pedal. My foot hit the ground, and my handlebars turned to the left...up and over I went, catching myself with my right hand and left forearm. Both had tremendous gashes in them...and as you can imagine, I didn't go to deliver the papers.
After walking the 30 feet back to my house, and seeing the look on my little brother's face, I decided to check the damage out in the mirror. Damn...there were a lot of holes in my skin. I wish I had a picture.
So I cleaned everything up, picked out all the rocks, etc., then I started to feel dizzy. Yikes. Dizzy means just a few steps from blackout, and blackout means just a few steps from fainting. That's no good. My solution: make a sandwich and eat it. I'm not kidding. The one thing that always evens me out after I've been injured or otherwise is the consumption of some sort of food. It worked like a charm, and I was able to finish dressing my wounds without further complication.
If you're ever curious, I'll show you the few scars I've got from the incident. They're not nearly as impressive as the actual wounds were, but they are still pretty neat, just ask.
*smile* While typing this, the pain in my hand slowly subsided, and it only has a dull ache. Sweet. I can definitely play video games (if I have time) with a hand that only aches. In 4-7 days, it'll be good as new. Touching certain spots is painful, but I'm not going to touch those spots anymore. On the upside, it's only my right ring and middle finger...I don't really use them for anything anyways. Washing dishes over the next few days is going to be a bother...hrm...maybe I'll eat some more ice cream *wink*.
