Summary: It took him two years to realize.
It took him two years to realize.
Two freaking years. He couldn't believe how blind he had been, it was so damn obvious.
He knew she'd liked him in high school - hell, everyone knew it.
And then they had gone on to college, and he hadn't seen her once since, even though they were attending the same institution. Their schedules just didn't meet, he figured.
And yet…
At the most unexpected moments, she cut through his thoughts. At times, he just had to close his eyes for her face to appear clearly beneath his eyelids.
It was normal, he figured. They had been more or less friends - he was bound to miss those high school friends sooner or later, right?
And then one day, as his second and last year was almost over, he bumped into her in the corridor. Having not seen each other in two years, they struck up a conversation. His last class of the day had just finished; she was coming out of a make-up exam.
An hour later found them sitting in a nearby café, chatting away, catching up on each other's life. Once again, like back in high school, he found himself drawn to her.
It's only when he got home that night after they'd parted ways, that the thought occurred to him that maybe, just maybe, his apparently friendly feelings for her ran deeper.
The next day, it was clear he wanted to see her again.
Getting hold of her phone number through a common friend (why hadn't he thought of that before?), he called her that very afternoon. She seemed happy that he'd called her, and agreed without hesitation to an outing the following Friday.
The first thing he noticed when he arrived the park where they'd agreed to meet to discuss further plans, was the look in her eyes, one he knew very well.
That look told him she had never quite gotten over him, and for some reason he felt very happy about it.
Everything became clearer when they left the movie theatre after seeing an horror movie they'd both wanted to see, and he felt a sudden surge of deep affection for her.
Everything - his memories of her, the connection he felt, how she was the only thought on his mind after their re-meeting, the way he felt when he was with her - it was because he loved her. And he had been in love with her a long time before they'd graduated. He just never realized it.
So, in a fierce desire to finally make things right, he did the first thing that came to his mind - he kissed her.
