Author’s Note: This was written for
3whiteroses who is a bad influence and when she started telling me about her new love for Adam/Tommy I asked her where Kris was, hence fic.
Kris can’t stop blushing around Tommy. He loved the performance; every time Adam started freaking out or second guessing himself Kris reminded him that he’d liked it so it had to be good. Of course Adam bought that and Kris didn’t tell him that he’d like anything Adam played. For once when it came to Adam it wasn’t about the music, because all he saw was the person, and the person was amazing.
The AMA performance was last year though, and since the divorce Kris has been spending a lot of time around Adam and his band. Which means he’s spending a lot of time around Tommy and the guy is cool, but he thinks Kris doesn’t like him and Kris doesn’t know how to tell him he makes him nervous.
Because every time he’s around Tommy and Adam he sees that kid, like instant replay only blown up in his imagination. He sees more tongue then there was, groping, and the clothes come off and Kris tries to stop thinking about it.
Because Adam doesn’t know, he knows Kris liked the performance, he realize that the performance changed Kris in ways he’s still trying to figure out.
For one thing it was the first time he’d ever seen Adam kiss a guy. Sure, the pictures with Brad were all over the place but that wasn’t live. Adam had never kissed Drake in front of Kris, and Kris hadn’t realized that until he saw Adam manhandle Tommy on stage and go all out.
He hadn’t been able to lie to himself anymore.
It was hot.
And Kris was definitely jealous.
Over the next few months it became clear that Tommy was definitely not as straight as Adam said he was, and Kris apparently wasn’t either. That bit of news wasn’t too startling; Kris’ family loved him, and he was good with himself. It was the fact that he was also in love with Adam that took him by surprise. How could you fall in love with someone and not know it? Kris still loved Katy, she was his best friend, but it wasn’t the same and they had known that.
Actually they had known that before Idol but didn’t really say anything. He had needed someone, and she had refused to leave his side -- in a way, she took care of him when he had stopped taking care of himself. They had gotten so used to each other that they didn’t know how not to be together.
Katy knew him, better than anyone really, and when he told her she had laughed. She had known for months and had just been waiting for him to figure it out.
Once he did, there wasn’t anything he could do about it; he wouldn’t. Because Tommy was there and Kris was pretty sure Tommy was in love with Adam. They were so alike, had so many things in common, and Kris didn’t want to get in the way of that. Because Tommy wasn’t Drake, Kris liked him; when he forgot about that kiss they actually got along pretty well. It was a music thing.
Their relationship happened slowly too, and Kris had stood back and watched them come together because he knew the best ones, the right ones, were the ones that built over time. And he had been right.
He didn’t miss the looks, the way they would brush up against each other. They were on a collision course together and it hurt a little because Kris finally knew exactly what he wanted, and he wouldn’t hurt Adam to have it.
Because Adam was so happy -- he smiled and laughed and sang and Kris stood by him because he was his friend, and that’s all he would ever be.
Kris leaned against the wall of the dressing room rubbing a hand over his eyes and he wanted to laugh, or cry … maybe a manly cry.
“Hey dude, you okay?” And of course it was Tommy, just getting off stage, dragging a towel across his face.
Kris forced a smile. “Yeah, the show was great,” he offered softly.
“Uh-huh, I’m sure it’s badass from the dressing room.” Tommy grinned and he tossed the towel on one of the tables. The one that didn’t belong to Adam, which meant it actually had room to put stuff on. “You okay? I know it’s been a few months since you and your wife split but…”
“It’s not that,” Kris reassured him, his smile a bit more genuine “It was over between us a long time before the split and we’re good, I’m good.” The last part didn’t sound convincing, and he knew it when Tommy snorted and moved closer, leaning beside him on the wall.
“You know, Allen, you’re shit at lying.”
Tommy was turned toward him and Kris could see the way his neck curved, his jaw sharp. He fidgeted, fighting down another blush, and cleared his throat. “Yeah, so I’ve been told. I think I’m just going to head back to the hotel and get some sleep. Tell Adam I’m sorry and I’ll see ya’ll tomorrow.”
Kris pushed himself off the wall, already heading for the door and ducking his head because he was embarrassed, and it hurt, and he really didn’t know how much longer he could do this. A hand wrapped around his wrist, stopping him in his tracks; Kris looked from the black nails to the man holding him.
Tommy wasn’t smiling; in fact, he looked between pissed and amused. “If you’re not here when Adam gets off stage it’s going to hurt him.” His hand curved around Kris’s wrist pulling him closer and Kris was too confused to resist. “And I don’t think you really want to leave.”
Kris swallowed, his throat dry, and shook his head, a crooked smile touching his lips “But I kind of have to. You guys celebrate, you deserve it.”
“But what about you? I really think you should stay, Kris. After all, you’re the one in love with my boyfriend,” Tommy smirked. Kris flushed and before he could say anything, before he could even think of what he could say in this situation Tommy was talking.
“It’s cool. Like I said, you’re a shit liar and it wasn’t hard to miss. Took Adam a while to figure it out though.”
Kris ducked his head, his voice soft. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. Sure it’s a bit fucked falling in love with your best friend while you’re married, and there is the part where you know Adam is in a pretty awesome relationship, and usually that would be a problem … but it’s not.”
“It’s really not.” And Kris hadn’t even noticed Adam come into the room. He was smiling nervously, fresh off the stage, his eyes bright. He came to stand behind Tommy, his eyes locked with Kris’. “I mean if you want it, please say you want it, Kris?”
“I don’t know what you’re asking Adam.” Kris couldn’t keep the tremble out of his voice.
“You,” Tommy leaned back into Adam, his smile suggestive, “him, and me.” Adam’s arm slid around Tommy’s waist, pulling him closer and Kris couldn’t tear his eyes away from him as Tommy kept speaking. “It can be a one-time deal if you want, or it could be something more. I love Adam, you love Adam, Adam has worshipped you for years, and I like to think he cares about me.” At that Adam pressed a kiss to Tommy’s throat, and then whispered something into his ear that made the other man smile.
“So what do you want?” Adam asked softly.
Kris swallowed, feeling Tommy’s hand moving from his wrist to intertwine with his fingers; he squeezed back, laughter bubbling up in his chest. “I want everything.”
