AU Background:
On the outside, Kira looked like any normal young boy from Amestris. He belonged to a family with a simple family background and didn’t really want to stand out. Though he was studying to be an engineer and was very skilled for someone his age.
He was adopted but he never really knew his biological family and was adopted by the Yamato couple. Only later did he discover that his biological parents experimented on him before he was even born. Like Athrun Zala, he had went through a magitek infusion procedure. The difference was that his procedure was probably more dangerous. His biological father wanted to create a son that was the Ultimate Mana Controler. Before Kira, there had been many unsuccessful attempts and Kira was the only survivor.
While he was studying at the Imperial Capital for short time, he pursued to improve his talent for technology. He also met and befriended a boy named, Athrun Zala. Unfortunately, Kira’s family had to move to Amestris for work.
After an attack from the Rift that killed his close friend and many innocent people in front of his eyes, he stopped his studies and joined the fighting to protect the people he cared for. The young boy who studied to be an engineer became a soldier. Unfortunately, people still continued to die. It made him question if he could really protect anyone at all. Being a very sensitive soul, Kira slowly began breaking down and began to fight with less and less hesitation. Later, he begins to question if what he was doing was the right way to protect anyone at all.
Personality:
At first glance, it will seem that Kira was your average shy boy. He was the quiet one among his friends and he still blushed when he saw the girl he liked. He lived in peace with his adoptive parents for most of his life, so he didn't initially have a lot of background about in military or battle. Personality-wise, he would be the last person you'd think to take arms and fight, but after his friend died he didn't think he could just return home and do nothing about it. He said, "If I have the power to make a difference, I should put it to good use." Kira was much to kind not to do anything after so many people get hurt, even if he absolutely didn't want to.
He would never betray his friends even if it means that it could kill him. It was not because he had little value of his life. It simply means that these people meant more to him than his own life. If it means saving someone, Kira can be impulsive. Every time someone he knows got hurt or died, he often cried and hating how powerless he still was despite his abilities.
He is sensitive to people pointing out that he was different because of his unnatural abilities. He doesn't get angry, but extremely upset and it does make him feel insecure at times.
He becomes a soldier, but he hated wars and conflict. He fights in order to protect the people he cared for like his friends and family. Unfortunately, Kira's kind and sensitive nature was not meant for war. The more battles he had to fight, the more people he failed to protect and the more people he had to see die almost drove him to near insanity. During this time, Kira is very vulnerable and easily manipulated (For example, Fllay who manipulated him to fight more aggressively in the series).
Later after some time and experience, he does begin acquire a calmer nature and perspective. He allowed his experiences in and out of the battlefield to help him mature and help him remember for whom he was fighting for. His insecurities about how different he was disappeared too after realizing that he was not just his abilities. There was also a person underneath and it had nothing to do with the fact that he was a little better at fighting than most. Kira doesn't really see himself as a leader. He is good at following orders, but he will not hesitate to not follow orders if he believed that these orders weren't right (For example, when he took Lacus Clyne to Athrun Zala because he didn't believe it was right to keep her hostage). The safety of another came first.
Combat Style:
Unlike Athrun, Kira didn't grow up with a lot of military training or experience. It is very likely that his fighting style is mostly freestyle and instincts. His fighting style and instincts did become much better with training after enlisting as a soldier. It also helps that he is a very quick learner.
His enormous talent with technology and natural ability as a soldier came in useful. He was given an equipment called the Strike. It has a special Phase Shift Armor and when activated, it become much stronger and reduces damages done to it. However, to activate it the user needs to use his own Mana. Extended use can deplete the user of his Mana. The Strike is equipped with a lot of weapons for different types of combat.
If in the future anything happened to his armor, his next Armor will be called the Freedom. It also has the Phase Shift armor feature. Fighting with this armor will give him the ability to last much longer in battle because it doesn't only draw Mana from its user anymore. It is equipped a beam rifle, beam sabers, cannons and a special feature where it can shoot down projectiles at close range.
Kira will eventually learn how to fire a gun, but he doesn't really like guns.
Someday, he will unlock his Seed Mode/Factor - (Superior Evolutionary Element Destined-factor) When the SEED factor is unlocked, Kira's eyes dilates and a brief scene of what may look like a seed exploding appeares. This is the SEED mode, usually activated when the person's feelings are strong and at times may seem out of control. Most of the time, this happens in the middle of battle, after a severe trauma to the person's mind and heart or when the person has the great desire to protect. There is an increase of awareness and their natural fighting capabilities are enhanced.
