Once Riley told us that it was Spike that had burst through the doors, Leah and I felt more secure and went downstairs to see Angel’s son.
Both of us had been attacked by vampires or demons of other origins on more then one occasion and though we are both slayers now, these things take some getting used to.
We walked down the stairs and instantly, could hear Connor, in the room, banging the bed against the wall as if he was trying to break free of the restraints that his own father had put on him for his own safety.
I stopped Leah, touching her shoulder, feeling the electricity that I got just from touching her, which was still an adjustment even though we had just done truly lesbian things to each other, because I had never really ever before wanted to touch a woman. I stopped her because I wanted to listen and see what the boy was doing and she stopped, because she had already met Connor, before whatever happened to him had happened, in terms of his memories coming back and she seemed interested in making sure that he was okay.
It was obvious that he was making progress in some way with his restraints, because he had stopped banging the bed against the wall and when we listened carefully, trying not to breathe, we could tell that he was clinking and pulling on the apparent chains around his wrists.
“Leah, how strong is this kid? I mean I’m sure that he won’t be able to take down both of us, but I’m also sure that you don’t want to hurt him, that I don’t want to hurt him and that his father doesn’t want us hurting him…so I guess that I’m asking because if he is really strong, we’re going to have to cowboy up on him to keep him from getting away…”
Leah turned and looked at me and there was some apprehension, or maybe fear in her eyes. I, personally, wasn’t afraid of the kid. He might be evil with his memories back and he might want to hurt other people, but I had seen him and I could tell that he didn’t want to hurt us.
Leah turned back towards the door, but before she could open it or answer me on the strength level of Connor, he opened the door and was only a foot or so away from Leah. Acting on instinct, probably, she pushed him back into the room, which might not have been the best way to go, and then both of us went in and I closed the door behind me. I was ready to put him down if we had to, but I didn’t know if Leah was.
We were about to find out and I had to say, the boy didn’t look happy at getting pushed down.
