"I'm a witch," she said simply, folding her hands in her lap as she met Sookie's gaze. "I've been practicing spells since I was sixteen, but only little things at first. Levitation, moving things... Things nobody would really notice if they weren't paying attention."
She paused, then continued, "I met up with a few other witches in New Orleans. My mentor, Octavia Fant, is sort of the unofficial head of the coven. The woman in the parking lot - her name was Rachelle - was banned from the coven because she used her magic to steal. That's one of our rules, and I just happened to be the one who caught her in the act..." Amelia winced. "You can probably guess that she took it pretty personally."
Taking a deep breath, Amelia sat back and crossed her arms. "I didn't mean to cause trouble or anything. I haven't had to use that kind of defensive magic before... Little things, like I said. I mean, I practice, but... It takes a lot out of me."
After a longer pause, Amelia hesitantly asked, her eyes wide, "So... how freaked out are you right now?" The last thing she wanted was for Sookie to run screaming from the house, though she didn't seem like the type to... And if she'd been likely to run, surely she'd have done so earlier in the parking lot...

She could 'hear' how nervous Amelia was. She didn't want to freak Sookie out, but she wanted to be honest with her. Sookie definitely appreciated that.
So, she smiled. But, it wasn't her 'I know what you're thinking, but I'll pretend I don't' smile, it was genuine. "I'm not all that freaked out, really."
Since they were being honest, she might as well share her own secret, "I mean, how could a telepathic waitress dating a vampire be freaked out by a witch?"

Amelia grinned easily, a wave of relief enveloping her. She was happy beyond words to have found someone to talk to about the supernatural weirdness that inhabited the world. Things "normal" people wouldn't normally be talking about, though the topic of vampires was pretty widespread.

As she asked about Bill, she glanced downward bashfully. No one had been this interested in her new boyfriend...could she call Bill her boyfriend? She had wanted to gush to someone so badly. "All of the above," she giggled, feeling like a normal girl for once, "He just moved her and lives real close by, actually--I can't read his mind, so it's so peaceful to be around him, 'specially after the horrible things I hear at work all day."

"My dad is... difficult. He was never around when I was growing up, and things haven't really changed since then if you know what I mean. He's another man in love with his work."
Shaking her head, Amelia smiled and turned her attention back to Sookie. "Tall, dark, and handsome? Any man - vampire or no vampire - with those three qualities is a-okay in my book. Maybe if I stay in Bon Temps long enough, I can find myself a good man..." she trailed off, smiling at the prospect. The last man she'd dated had been a guy named Thad who'd had a tattoo of a flower on his left hip. Not one of her best dating moments, that was for sure.
