"It wasn't a mere boy with a crush," Giles said to Willow. He could feel the magic in the air, and it had a dark taste to it. Right now he wanted to put his faith in Willow to think that, after the fiasco in Sunnydale, she had learned to control her magic and could occasionally use the darker spells that the line of work they were all in sometimes called for. He hoped so, anyway. It was all that he could do to hope that she could control it, after all.

"It was a thricewise that cursed Dawn. They're an ancient race that are known for placing powerful curses on people who displease them." He wasn't sure exactly what Dawn had done to this boy, but it was apparently something that truly upset him. Thricewise didn't just curse people at random, after all, considering what all it took to do it. It was obviously a younger one, though, to place it on a girl that he had dated. Poor Dawn. Hopefully this would work.

He took the book from Willow. "I'll start on the preparations then," he said to her simply, doing just that. He opened the book to the marked page and started to prepare the spell for her. It was all he could do, after all, since he had the distinct feeling that Willow wanted to do this on her own, and use the magic for her own. That wasn't a good sign, but now he had to look over it in favor of helping Dawn.

Bitchy Dawn was bitchy. And whiny. And Willow not have been so caught up in the draw of the darker magic she would have cared, would have felt sympathy for the girl. She had before, trying to comfort and reassure Dawn where she could. But now the dark magic was calling and nothing, *nothing* was going to stop the red-head from tasting it again like she had so many years ago.

Of course the lecturing Giles needed to be with the lecturing. Inwardly Willow rolled her eyes and bit her tongue hard from letting out some sarcastic remark. It wasn't how her friends knew her. In fact a small part of her was screaming that it wasn't who *she* was at all. Willow Rosenberg rarely did sarcasm, or mean things, or thought ill of her friends.

Now? Now they were all with the annoying. Xander and his trying to be nice to Faith. Willow could tell he would still want to jump her bones if she'd let her. Which, hah, Faith probably would. The little slut would spread--Whoa! Where had that come from?

Okay, she had to focus here and not-- think bad thoughts. Or just not bad thoughts like *that*! Taking a deep breath, Willow kept the smile plastered on her face as she sat there. Drawing in the 'mother's energy'. What she was actually doing was draining her friends of their anger, their frustration, their lust, their-- negative emotions. It was the bad sort of energy.

She could have asked, Willow knew that, and they all would have given it to her freely. Even Faith. Oh she knew that. But then she'd get the energy that was to light for this job. She needed their negative emotions and it really would take to much explaining if she'd asked for that, she was sure, so why bother?

Once she had enough she stood up with a grace she usually didn't display and smiled serenely. She looked over at Giles and noticed he'd done most of the 'preparations'. Drawn the circle and what not. "Whenever you're ready, Giles," she said like the good obedient little witch they all knew.

"Dawn? If you'd take place in the circle," which wasn't really need for anything but the show they all were expecting, "Giles just made on the floor? Then we can begin." She looked eager to start this, but then, Willow always looked eager when there was magic involved.

"Re-conning sounds good," Faith agreed, giving the other Slayer a nod. This should've been a really, REALLY bad idea. But Giles didn't seem too worried about it and frankly, Faith wanted to remain the bigger person and just go with the flow. It was how she rolled anyway. It just made things easier and not be such a resistant person, especially not to Buffy. "Always good to have another pair of eyes to spot what we mighta missed."

Xander raised his hand a bit. "I can't offer you a full pair, but you could use half a pair, right?"

Faith nodded with a smirk. "Sure. Looks like these guys are settlin' down with what they gotta do." Poor kid. Dawn was a fucking horse. Something you don't see everyday.

"Yeah, G-Man and Wills have got it all under control," Xander assured them. "They'll have Dawn ready and human probably before we get back from Bon Temps."

Faith pulled out a picture from her jacket and showed it to Buffy and Xander. "This is the punk-ass kid we're dealin' with." The girl looked to be 17 or so. "We just gotta bring her to her senses, get her back under our wing. Who knows what she's thinkin' right now."

"Probably not thinking straight," Xander said with a frown. "Well, let's get going." He looked over to where Willow and Giles were directing Dawn into the circle. "We'll be back, Will!" he called to his best friend with a wave. "Off to keep these girls safe and all that."

Faith gave Xander a look after exchanging one with Buffy then grinned and began to walk off to start the search.

Dawn moved into the circle when Willow said that she could. Really, she just wanted to get this over with and be normal again. It really was one thing to just be big, but another thing completely to be a half-horse thing. At least when she was a giant she could still feel somewhat human and normal, but now she was feeling all monstrous-y and that just wasn't cool at all. If she had known that Willow was taking the large amounts of negative energy from her right now, well, she would have supplied happily. She had tons of it to go around right now.

Giles might not have been so happy with it. Of course, he didn't quite realize what was going on, though. He felt *something* change in the air, but, at the same time, he had said that he would help with turning Dawn back to normal, and a spell of that magnitude would take a little bit of dark magic to undo. It was an unfortunate consequence of dealing with magic. You couldn't always use white magic to do things that needed to get done. So, he just buried his feelings for everything right now, and hoped for the best. They should be able to pull Willow back again if they needed to.

"I believe we're ready when you are," Giles said to Willow, also wanting to get this over with, but more because he was worried about what this might be doing to Willow than for Dawn's own reasons. Although he did understand that she would probably do just about anything at this point to get away from being a centaur. He might feel the same if he were in the same situation.

Dawn fidgeted in the circle. She might be a little embarassed about how bitchy she was acting later, but right now all she could think about was getting back to normal. Maybe she'd enroll in UNO or LSU or something like that. She could start going to school again, maybe move into a dorm (Buffy was great, but it was time for Dawn to be on her own, wasn't it?), and basically be normal again!

Willow wouldn't have noticed her friends leaving at all. She wouldn't have. If it weren't for the lack of angry and sour emotional energy in the room. She frowned when she no longer could draw on that power, realizing that it was only her, Giles and whiny girl left. Heh. Whiny girl. Half horse. That was funny.

Only not very with the getting on of things. So the Slayer power was gone, Xander's dumb human power was gone too. No matter, Willow had gathered enough. Probably way, way more then she should have but it wasn't as if she cared at all about that at this point. Besides, there were always Dawn, the key with her own mystical powers. And Giles. Oh Giles who had used dark magic at one point and would always keep some of that locked inside.

Willow couldn't understand why the man, after tasting such delicious dark power, hasn't given himself over to that again a *long* time ago. Weakling. That's what he was. A weakling who couldn't handle the darkness. Unlike Willow herself of course. She could taste it as she mumbled the spell and focused on the energy around her.

With her friends gone and only Giles and Dawn there she didn't even bother with the magical show they usually expected. Giles knew it wasn't really needed and Willow, at this point, didn't much care what Dawn thought. No doubt the girls only concern was to get human again and not the lack of magical hocus pocus.

"Beseech, beseech," she muttered, keeping her head down so no one would see her eyes turning black. She kept mutter she spell instead of her usual loud exclaiming of the words. Unlike light magic, Willow thought amused, dark magic wasn't deaf. Once she was done, she kept looking down for a moment longer, feigning fatigue.

"It is done," she announced. When she looked up her the blackness faded from her green eyes like clouds and a sheepish look was plastered on her face in the perfect goody two shoes Willowy look.

"Oops? We probably should have gotten you a robe huh?" Yeah, her shirt certainly wasn't long enough. And now Giles was gonna get all stammery and red as would Dawn-- hilarious!

Dawn was almost acting like she was sitting on pins and needles. She could almost feel that she was going to be human soon. She could feel the magic swirling in the air. Maybe being the key still meant something? She could certainly feel magic. Always had, though. She wondered herself if she could do magic at that moment. She hadn't really messed with it since the incident of trying to raise her mother from the dead, though. Probably for the best. Probably, anyway.

Giles could feel the magic in the air as well. He could hear what she was saying, and understood it perfectly. Of course, right now they NEEDED for Dawn to be changed back. Then hopefully Faith, Buffy, and Xander would find the other Slayer and they could move on. He hated that we was so uncomfortable being here now that that's what he wanted, but maybe it was for the best.

Dawn felt giddy for about three seconds after her transformation back to normal human. She was human again! She could go outside and be normal! She still had be to careful as sister to Buffy Summers, who was wanted by the government and everything, but this meant that she could go outside and not be a freak again! Then she realized that she was naked from the waist down.

Shrieking, she tried to pull the top down as she bolted through the house, looking for what was probably Buffy's room somewhere. Well, it wasn't like she hadn't borrowed clothing before, after all.

Giles himself coughed loudly and looked away as Dawn ran screaming through the house, not quite comprehending what she was saying, but knowing that it had something to do with her being naked. He pulled off his glasses and started to clean them. "Good job Willow," he muttered, focusing intently upon cleaning his already clean glasses.
