Love is forever, and we'll die together

Jan 24, 2011 20:46

Last week, Buffy Summers turned 30. And today, Dean Winchester turns 32. In honor of them I'm posting the Buffy/Dean art I've done since June of last year. These are mostly unreleased, and were planned on being released as I had moved to new servers but as that's taking much longer than I thought, I figured I could instead shine a light on the characters and celebrate that they've managed to reach 30/32 without dying too many times :)

Wallpapers are for personal use (i.e desktop prettiness) only, which means no repoasting or copying.

CHAMPIONS

There were two thoughts behind this piece. 1) sparkling_gold  was having her birthday and I wanted to give her a gift and 2) I've always loved this quote from "Angel" and feel it fitting for not only that show and it's characters and their arcs but also for both Buffy and the Winchester brothers. Which is where this piece began. What I felt right off the start was that I wanted to use this manip of Buffy I did two years ago. It's never been used before due to me not finding a good concept but I thought it was about time I found one. And as champions is something one doesn't speak of in the real world, really, I felt there needed to be something that deemed this piece "other wordly" which is where all the light comes from. The background falls upon the Supernatural lore and the "Croatoan" virus. Thought it would be a nice touch.

LOVE AND VIOLENCE

Piece was created around the time there was a challenge on BuffyForums. So I'm just gonna copy/paste the description I wrote then because it tells you my thoughts the best considering it's been over 6 months since I made this.

So imagine that Buffy and Dean got together. Would their relationship be filled with love and fluffy moments or would it contain violence and passionate love? Personally, however much I love to ship these two, I have a feeling that the second option would be correct. So that's what you have here. To the left you can find the violence (Dean choking Buffy.... (maybe she's been possessed?) and to the right you have the love (a kiss). Their lives would be upside down together and it wouldn't just be colors, but there'd be dark, grimey parts of it, because they are The Slayer and a Hunter, and as I said, their relationship wouldn't be fluffy bunnies, which is why I've turned the piece on its head and made it b/w. And perhaps unlike others, they wouldn't become "one" because they're a couple, they would still be two people with their own minds, their own decisions, their own paths, their own wills; which is why I've split the image down the middle.

I usually don't have problems with text, but lately it's become harder and harder. While making this I was listening to a specific song a lot but when finished I realized the piece fit the music, but not the lyrics. And there was no words out there I could find that would or could fit. So this is my first ever textless piece, but I hope that what I'm aiming for is coming across anyway

OUR LOVE WILL BE FOREVER

This is a very special piece. I've always loved the shoots with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson because they're often executed very beautifully and in wonderful settings. They beat out a lot of other shoots I enjoy with Jensen and Sarah, which is impressive since my OTP is those two, but there's just something about those shoots. And that's what I wanted to bring into the world of Buffy and Dean. I wanted that sweetness but possessiveness that emanates from this shoot. The love that exists, the happiness but the mystery of why they're in the woods, why he's standing over her, reaching for her wrist as she's folded her hands over her chest. I chose these lyrics because I felt they fit both the couple of choice and the piece itself. For those of us who love this ship, we see how their love can be forever and the fact that they will die, but most likely together, in battle.

Piece is from Dean's POV.

WHY DOES LOVE ALWAYS FEEL LIKE A BATTLEFIELD?

Over the last year while reading avamclean 's work, I've realized a lot about this couple. Things I was aware of before but perhaps not as much as now. To me, I don't see this love as a dance on roses and pink clouds. There will be violence, if not directed at each other it will be in battle together against the things that go bump in the night. Listening a lot to Jordin Sparks's "Battlefield" I realized that a lot of that song felt fitting for them and it inspired this piece, as did the Eclipse Parody by The Hillywood Show. Their love would go up, it would go down, it would hurt and it would be passionate and it would pull them to the raggedy edge of life, but isn't that how true love is suppose to be? As Angelus puts it: "Without passion, we'd be truly dead." Isn't that the truth?

Considering the theme of the whole piece, broken shards of glass and keeping everything in black and white felt like the way to go, and if you look closely, you will find four hidden pictures within those effects that show parts of their relationship. The cuts on their faces, well, that I leave up to your own imagination. Perhaps it was inflicted by both of them, or perhaps it happened in battle.. only your imagination will know.

MILES TO GO: DRIVEN BY HATE, CONSUMED BY FEAR

Now here's a piece that took on a life of its own. It doesn't happen that often these days but this one just ran off and ended up in a completely different light than I had planned. It was inspired solely by Drowning Pool's "Bodies" and at the beginning it wasn't about the hate between Buffy and Dean, just the battle and the hardship of their lives, separately. But somewhere along the way the fanfic series "Miles to Go" by avamclean  seeped into my subconscious and suddenly, I found myself with a piece focusing on Buffy and Dean and the hate she must be feeling for him after being tortured by him in hell for 50 years. The piece is violent and depicts what could possibly happen if Buffy ever ended up in the same room or, hell, even the same forest, as Dean. She wouldn't say hello, this much is true (and has been revealed/confirmed by the writer), no her reaction would be violence, a stake through the heart if possible. Her hate for him is what might very well be parts of what drives her on after she has returned to earth, despite the apocalypse being the car she's driving. But what would happen when she meets him? She might very well be consumed by fear of Dean, of what he stands for and everything he's done to her and the prospect of yet again being tortured by him.

So there you have it, a piece filled with all of that is why I've chosen the gritty effects, letting textures take over pictures, because the focus lies in the larger shots. The hate in her eyes especially. And the text itself, so short but telling you everything that you need to know.
