Thanks for friending me, I look forward to getting to know you!! So very glad you are escaping that dangerous situation, I had a friend do something very similar a couple of years ago. Was kind of difficult and hairy for her for a little while as she adjusted but she's in a much better place now, on her feet and stable and in love again.

Lol - never heard of the person you mentioned and I don't see myself stirring up drama online in that way ;) Perhaps in a parody community with friends I know very very well where we pretend to get furious over stupid things to satirize the foolishness of flame wars online, but never over anything actually serious. One of my favorite plays is The Curious Savage, where an old lady's been committed to a mental hospital by greedy relatives seeking to steal her money, which she wants to give away. The relatives come and make a scene in the hospital and a friendly fellow patient seeks to distract them by grabbing board games out of the waiting room and trying to get them to play. Her famous line is: "Parcheesi! Such an interesting game!" So I've warned all my LJ-friends that I'm posting a link to an online version of Parcheesi if any flame wars erupt in my journal ;)

Hopefully you will get safely to where you are moving and that you will have a warm dry place and friends and cash waiting for you. I'd like to send you a care package myself and please visit a library or someplace with a public computer and let your LJ friends know you are okay! Yes, you do need the Net - I've taken college classes and applied for jobs and done research for my novel online. Also lots of banking and business related functions are available online, as is medical information and a lot of other useful things. The Net has kept me sane for years and yes we do need it.

I believe in creative chaos myself, seeing points of disagreement and disharmony as starting points for further investigation and research rather than glossing over them. Has served me well as a science journalist and novelist.
