That's the name of the spin-off series being planned that would star Elisabeth Sladen in her iconic role as Sarah Jane Smith, plucky girl reporter who digs deep into the toughest stories. A pilot is in the works. There is also a rumor going about that both SJS and K9 will appear in this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Runaway Bride".
Speaking of former companion actresses coming back to the series, the ever-delightful Katy Manning -- who played Jo Grant opposite Jon Pertwee -- recently told a theater audience that she would be appearing in Series 3, though not as Jo.
Meanwhile, much of what has already been shot of the other Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood, is having to be re-shot. The sets were very dark by design, but the digital video cameras being used to record the show with weren't up to the task. Many scenes have been remounted with better lighting. It's unclear if this will throw the October/November premier off, and if so, by how much.
Some details of Torchwood plots have leaked out -- there will be an episode where the Torchwood Cardiff team have to deal with some of the aftermath of the events of "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday", and another in which the human race is threatened by an extremely randy alien.
NBC Universal are saying that Series 2 will debut on SciFi on September 29 at 9pm. It's unclear at this time if the run will be kicking off with "New Earth" or the "The Christmas Invasion". "The Christmas Invasion" is 60 minutes long and would either have to be part of its own two-hour block or cut down by 15 minutes to fit into SciFi's schedule.
There is a spurious rumor going about that the malevolent Time Lady known as The Rani will be returning to Doctor Who in Series 3, but I classify this at the moment in the same pile of rumor rubbish as I did Anthony Head being cast as The Master. (Although he would have been a great Master, and I would have had him play it just like he did Mr Finch in "School Reunion".)
