Oh! I almost forgot. We were at the mall yesterday (Tucson Mall) and as we were leaving, I was stopping by every T-Mobile booth to try and see if they had a Cliq to see, even just a mockup. Noone had any, until we got to the T-Mobile store just as we were about to leave. I asked, and the guy was about to say no, but then he said that they had just gotten in a demo unit.. he kept telling me that they weren't selling them yet, and I told him that was alright, I just wanted to see what it was like. It was up and running and I got some time to mess around with it..
From the short time I had with it, great phone. I really liked that they cleaned up some things and really added functionality. Being able to hit the contacts and dialer from any of the 5 home screens via a tab is *really* a plus, without having to have icons on the screen for it. For running on the same type of CPU that all the others have out there, it's really snappy, even after popping through a bunch of apps. Things seem really responsive, and there's a lot of nice features like a ringer/vibrate physical switch, 3.5mm headphone jack, power button on the side of the unit, and a much larger menu button. I really liked how a lot of it worked, and I'll say that I'd trade in my G1 in a second for that thing. The screen was nicely responsive and the open-close action on the keyboard is really great. The only beef I had is that the keyboard feels slightly cramped coming from the G1's huge expanse of a 'board, but if someone was coming from any other HTC device without a separate number row, they'd feel right at home. The keyboard is a bit squishy, but with the advances of onscreen keyboards, I wouldn't feel that bad about it.
Other than that, I can't wait to get some more hands on time with it, might even get one for christmas. We'll see..
Preorders start the 19th!
Just had a huuuge burrito from Los Betos. Tasted awesome and was filling.
