Throwing!

Having made 60 mugs and bisqued them a month or so ago, a local friend has just asked me for... MUGS! But not the kind I made. She wants one of the styles I do, but not altered, and plain of glaze. She's going to use them at some Tudor recreation thing, and needs them vaguely passable as period pieces. But authenticity isn't essential. It's just a guideline. Their costumes have to be perfect, their mugs just nodding at the time frame. And she said they might sneak out for tea, which wouldn't have been known about yet. Not purists.

So out I went tonight to throw yet more mug bodies which will go forth undented and unsplashed in a most un-OzoneLouise-like manner. But they've done some things for us recently, so I'm happy to do it. For cost.

Of course all I can think is, "why do I not do this all the time?" Then I remember how I had to unload the bisque kiln and there was nowhere to put any of the pieces. I guess I could make things and then reclaim the clay, never actually finishing anything, but finishing is fun, and I actually make some pretty good mugs. People should be sensible enough to want them. They should be sensible enough to buy them, even. Not that they're getting much of a chance at the moment.

Anyway, I went on and made some experiment pieces, trying a technique I've read about but never attempted. Looks good so far, but the next step will tell for sure. I was pretty pleased with myself about how well this stage seems to have gone. I'd class what I did tonight as fairly advanced, which does wonders to banish my imposter complex for a little while.
