Don't people get sick of it? This superficiality, this temporal satisfaction...we are bombarded with these ideas of how we are supposed to find happiness and love ourselves. I once heard that a definition for insanity is to repeat the same action expecting a different outcome. I think we all must be a little insane. We are looking for satisfaction that will last throughout our lifetime. Some think it will be gained through success, power, beauty, sex... there are so many area's that we think will make us happy. But once we get there...does it last?
I was on a 2 million dollar yacht today and somehow my brain decided that the flat screen tv I was watching while floating next to Santa Cruz island was too small for my liking. I say this to admit that I am spoiled and also to make the argument that as humans we are never satisfied. We always want more. Bigger, better.
Maybe you are reading this and you just don't want to think about this topic beacause it is depressing and it is just too deep and uncomfortable to go there. But I think it is a good exercise to look into our lives and try to figure out what makes us happy. Not temporarily... but something that gives us such a deep joy that even in the hard times, we have hope.
I know what mine is. Do you?
